This is delightfully horrifying. I mean, seriously, it's got the perfect Stephen King vibe of subtle horror going on.

Lol. If King did potter. That would be something else, haha.

Cosmic--Chaos [2017-06-18 06:25:18 +0000 UTC]

Once again, stunning work on the coloring and the details. And for added eeriness, you drew the chicken that Ginny murdered.

As I got older and I reread this novel, the idea of an 11-year-old being manipulated by an unknown man (who turns out to be extremely dangerous) and going missing at risk of death was much creepier than I perceived as a child.

Thanks so much, Victoria!

That's one of those things that I don't think you fully grasp as a child. But the older you get the more terrifying that whole situation seems.

You're welcome.

Rowling did an excellent job with that plot line & how it aged for the readers.

I always forget that this book includes a little girl getting possessed, strangling chickens and writing messages on the wall in blood. Well done.

Master-of-the-Boot [2016-12-15 17:36:49 +0000 UTC]

And finally this book.

I think this picture really does credit to the terrifying idea of possession, losing yourself and being taken advantage of by a charmer

DylanPierpont In reply to Master-of-the-Boot [2016-12-16 01:18:59 +0000 UTC]

Bingo! It was important to me that I communicated Ginny's abuse in this piece (hats off to CelticBotan for her description) Her situation was fairly downplayed in that book, but she was the catalyst for the entire story!

Master-of-the-Boot In reply to DylanPierpont [2016-12-16 17:25:00 +0000 UTC]

While the least gruesome, this one is also the most visceral because in the past I've struggled with abusive relationships. What Tom did in the book, come in nice, flatter his mark, gradually grind them down, it's something that happened to me without the fantasy elements. So this is really something rather personal.

And the strangled Hen, that hits home as an omen of future, worse violence.

DylanPierpont In reply to Master-of-the-Boot [2016-12-20 15:05:39 +0000 UTC]

I can imagine. I know (like most creators and writers) Rowling injected much of her real-world experiences into her work. So it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Tom's relationship to Ginny was in some way based off her past with her ex Husband.

It looks like you yourself are also a writer. So I'd venture to guess you've done something similar with your work at one point or another.

Sebastian-O-Malley [2016-09-20 03:19:37 +0000 UTC]

ugh again great interpretation...Ginny's trauma over this was so passed by the other characters, but it really is horrible what happened to her and this piece portrays that so well.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DylanPierpont In reply to Sebastian-O-Malley [2016-10-07 04:43:48 +0000 UTC]

My thoughts exactly. There was a certain level of mental abuse that's kind of underplayed given the YA genre. But when you really sit down to think about...Ginny went through some really dark stuff, haha.

Thanks so much for stopping by

CelticBotan [2016-09-13 14:29:00 +0000 UTC]

This is AWESOME. People really underestimate HP a lot, while it is a book for kids, it deals with so much heavy, dark metaphors (on Ginny's case, mind control and minor abuse, holy shit), it is unbelievable people still can think this is only a children's story.

PLEASE, keep up with this series!
