Thank you. Yes the Sea Wees were the inspiration for this and will do more in the future.
You still can find those toys on eBay mostly used, but they're a little price, given they've become collectible.

OMG, this looks exactly like a Sea Wee doll I had in the 80s! I had forgotten all about this until I saw your drawing. I used to play with her all the time in the bathtub.
Here is a link to a page about the dolls: seawee.tripod.com/seawees.html Were these by any chance an inspiration for you?

Yes the inspiration was one of those old dolls. I plan to make the other two Sandy and Coral.
When I was little I was always fond of toys that were water related in any way; my favorites were a Fisher Little people boat with the family and a Hasbro Weebles submarine with a diver. Both did actually float.
Though I was already in junior high when I saw the Sea Wees (1979) I bought one for a cousin of mine, then ended up buying a Sandy for me. I lost her or gave her to someone, anyways on eBay I was able to find again my Weebles submarine and the Little People Fisher Price boat with all accessories. Last week I was able to find some loose Sea Wees and two combs, but not the sponge they came with. I've always had a thing for mermaids and mythological creatures, and I always found them so cute. I didn't care they were girls toys. They were very original and colorful.
What really struck me about them was a story my late father's sister mentioned once. She was in her early teens when it happened. In the West Coast of the Island, located in Lajas we have a phosphorescent bay. Back then it was all wild without any sign or people and families only went there for fishing and sightseeing nature.
My father's sister was left on a rowing boat alone for some time while other family members attended to other matters. She said she was looking at the water and seeing many colored fish, when she saw what seemed little children of very small size in the water., as small as some of the fish and crabs. When she looked them more closely she said they were little mermaids with very white skin and long hair., and they stared at her for a moment and then swam away.
Month later when she visited the wild forest reserve of El Yunque she also some kind of elves or little people. To this day she is not fond of anything remotely associated with fairies, even Tinkerbell. As for the mermaids she says they do exist and are very close to what the SeeWees are.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who remembers and played with the Sea Wees! As for your aunt's story, wow! I am totally blown away. How special that she got to see such rare creatures....

You can still find some of them on eBay, mint in box ones go for exorbitant prices! I was able to find the original three loose recently. No combs and no sponge lily pad.
They'll be joining my water toys Weebles sub and Fisher Price family boat soon.
My aunt does not like to talk about anything otherwordly, especially such creatures, I think her second experience/encounter at the El Yunque forest with the elves or faeries left her scared. She was saw a book I had on them with gorgeous illustrations on the European little people, one of her sons wanted to borrow it from me and she didn't let him.
But her encounter with the "sea wees" seemed to have been friendlier.
