Thank you! Really all the filters did here was allow me to slow down the shutter speed. A tighter aperture would have done the same thing, but the Lumix has a minimum aperture setting of f/8. On the 350D I now own, I probably could have gotten away without the filters... or perhaps only one of them.

Thank you so much for the too!

Yes, I know how's it with the compact cameras(my FZ7 max f/8 ), I should buy a filter too Until I buy an DSLR, but till then also an analog SLR will be ok

Aside from a few minor annoyances, I was fairly happy with my FZ5. For your camera, if you plan to buy more than one filter, I'd recommend the Cokin A system. You get still get used filters (and sets of filters) on eBay for fairly cheap. And the system can be easily moved to another camera, so long as you don't have any really large lenses.

Depending on what you're looking for, analog SLRs are nice. Especially if you want to use the camera for learning purposes. If so, get on eBay and find an old cheap one -- preferably all-manual (except with TTL metering). I use an old Minolta SRT-101 that was my father's and it is a wonderful camera. Old Minoltas are also nice because the entire line of MD/MC mount lenses work with almost any camera in the line. New camera old lens, old camera new lens -- almost always works (though of course, old cameras can't take advantage of all the features on newer lenses). Best of all, the cameras and lenses are comparatively cheap.

Well, I'm like shoting with fz7, the only thing that I don't like about it is a lot of noise, even at ISO 200 and more, and maybe the manual settings are a little slow, but the results with manual settings are usually better...Thanks for your advices about filters, I'll check it out
Well, I've got also my dad's old Olympus OM-1, and I really like it cause you can photo even without any batteries(really cool)I've got two lenses the Vivitar 28mm 1/2.8, and Zuiko 50mm 1/1.4 but now i want to get one of those two Zuiko 200mm f/4 or Zuiko 75-150mm f/4, I was looking on ebay and you can get them really cheap.I just can't wait to start shooting with it now

Sounds like a plan! Not knowing anything about Zuiko lenses, I would say go with the 200mm... Generally speaking, prime lenses tend to be sharper than zoom lenses... But that may or may not be true in this particular case...

Hehe, well Zuiko lenses are made by Olympus, so more or less are known by Olympus system users. And yes, I've read about that that prime lenses are better than zoom....so probably 200mm is better buy.

The composition in this is amazing! You're eyes are forced to follow the top wood planks down to the end, giving you no further choice but to look at how misty the water almost looks... like its a fog not water. All in all AMAZING job!

This is an aptly titled piece! The wood tones, and greenish color of the water farther out really mix well with the soft tones of the mist. It's nearly symmetrical too! Very well done!

Yeah, I think I like it better too. I origininally had though of putting them together in the same frame, but the composition is slightly different, so I couldn't...

Wheee I get the first fav and first comment; I really like this with the multiple diagonal lines. DOF is good. I would have liked to see it a little less exposed in the sky/light outside the dock, but this is still really good.

Thanks very much for the compliments, critique, and !

Did you mean you wanted the sky/light outside the dock less exposed, or that you would have preferred to see it cropped out of the image?

the-shutterbug In reply to eagle79 [2006-10-06 18:32:02 +0000 UTC]

Preferably a little less exposed, since it seems kinda bright, but I understand in the long expsosure needed to get the water to look the way it does, it was kind of a take what you can get situation. I really do like this photo

eagle79 In reply to the-shutterbug [2006-10-07 05:20:27 +0000 UTC]

Thanks again!

I can see what you mean. Especially given the effect it has on the posts. I do like the way the areas outside the pier are completely overexposed, though. I wish that had been balanced on the other side, but of course, that wasn't possible, since to get it, I'd have to remove the other two-thirds of the pier!

Anyhow, again, I really appreciate the critique. It's always nice to hear someone say they like a piece. But it's even nicer to get a little constructive criticism to go with it.
