Description I loved you once: perhaps that love has yet
To die down thoroughly within my soul;
But let it not dismay you any longer;
I have no wish to cause you any sorrow.
I loved you wordlessly, without a hope,
By shyness tortured, or by jealousy.
I loved you with such tenderness and candor
And pray God grants you to be loved that way again.

--Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin

...yeah, we're learning poetry in my russian class now. :B and Greatest Russian Poet Pushkin. yes. apparently poetry is a Big Deal in russia. poetry... and vodka, according to my professor. but ANYWAYS. this is a famous russian poem by a famous russian poet, and if you're interested in hearing it recited by a native speaker, here you go: [link] it's also meant to be recited to a woman, because of the particular wording in the original russian. s'true.

what does this have to do with sven and minerva? ...not much more than A) sven is russian, and B) the closest he'd ever gotten to 'love' was when he was with minerva. (i am SUCH a dork.) but she's flown the coop, for reasons as yet unknown, so now sven's a wee bit mopey about it (and the titanic was just a wee bit leaky).

but since poetry is a Big Deal in russia, sven is a failure at being russian. he's a digrace to his fellow countrymen! why? because, simply put, sven doesn't know a single poem. not that he feels poetry is for nancy boys; he's just painfully uneducated. PAINfully so. meaning he's completely illiterate in all languages. eight hundred years, and he hasn't made any progress even learning the alphabet (latin or cyrillic). luckily for him, the closest emotion he has to embarrassment is annoyance. not to mention the well-educated boniface is more than willing to subject his master to a good hour of literature every so often. sven tolerates this, if only to let bonny get it over and done with quickly.

and this is ALSO prize/gift art for ~tfoxley , who harbours a fondness for sven. he's just that loveable.

am i the only one getting a 'maiden and the monster' kinda vibe from this? i'm lovin' it.

ps-- this was a stupid description. forgive me.
