Description
Young Anna Komnene, daughter of Byzantine emperor Alexios I Komnenos (1081-1118), flanked by ladies of the court and palace eunuchs.
This one was inspired by a conversation I had a while back with about some visual aspects of the Byzantine court at the time of the First Crusade. Roaming through various manuscript illuminations gave me the incentive to do some sketching and eventually a full illustration.
