Description I can't help it, I love Glee. Kurt was my favourite character from the very start, and I love everything the Warblers do. Or should I say, Blaine & The Pips? Darren Criss and Chris Colfer are both great singers, and good actors.

I have a bit of a thing for uniform jackets, so when I ran into this picture (which appeared on the cover of Entertainment Weekly in January 2011), I couldn't resist drawing it. The photo is very clean, it has very little in terms of shadows. This was very tricky to draw, I might have to work on this piece a little more at some point.

Even before I started I knew 9B graphite pencil wasn't going to look black enough for me, so I found a special type of crayon/pencil/thing. I don't like the combination of graphite with black coloured pencil, but this one is not quite graphite, not quite coloured pencil. I haven't a clue as to what it really is, the box only gives it a number! I am determined to find out though. Maybe something like Siberian crayon?

OK, enough talk.

I must say the ties are my favourite part, they look very silky and 3D! You've got some very nice blacks there as well.

Perhaps you've found one of those oil-based charcoal pencils there? I've been using the ones that Cretacolor makes and they also feel like a cross between a graphite and a colour pencil. They're quite soft and easy to use, just like graphite, but the result is matte.

I love drawing ties, I don't think there's anything I enjoy drawing more than ties

I've been trying to find out what it is I'm using. It's from Koh-i-noor Hardtmuth, but all I can find (even on their website) is "artists' lead black". It's definitely much heavier than charcoal, but just as dark. I will ask next time I'm in the store! It has no wood around it, so it's a bit messy. Might have to buy a holder.

Mijn cameraman, bv, is 61 haha.
