did you use heat to raise the foil or just simple magical incantations?  I can go either way though I'm far better using heat

A little from column A, a little from column B

This is actually the foil layer of a CD (DVD? Don't remember) that's been singed with a small torch. This creates some really fascinating patterns at high magnifications, and with the light just right you get a rainbow of colors. If you look in my gallery, all the pictures in the folder labeled 'Distortions' were all done with this technique.
