Description     "What?!" there was outrage in the main hall of the survivors faction. "Going there is suicide!" "We must have enough food! We can't be forced to go!" The faction members were outraged at the recent mission that Adrienne (Mink) had given them. The short leader stood in front of the faction, scanning the terrified, angered, and ready faces; her own face remained calm.

In the background stood a 15 year old girl, blonde strands of hair between her fingers, being twirled nervously. "South Edenberg is really that bad?" her thoughts were going wild at the outrage around her. Her small footsteps were drowned out by the roar of the faction, as she slowly made her way around to the exit. "I need the reward, I have only a little food left, and that's the same for everybody. I gotta do something."

Mink spotted the small girl leave, not making a move to stop her, the corners of Mink's mouth curved up in a small smile.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Marigold shifted the empty backpack that was on her back as she walked south. "I wish dad was here, he always had a compass to make sure we knew where to go" she thought to herself. The shadows of the old buildings around her had started to shrink as the sun continued it's ascent. As she walked, she heard the unmistakable, "Uhhhrrrr" of the undead coming from inside a nearby building.

"Oh no, oh no!" she thought, her heart pounding in her chest as she sped up her pace, trying to get passed the zombie. "Why did I do this alone?! I don't even like to be alone, none the less in the middle of an apocalypse!" Marigold's thoughts were running crazy as the sun beat down on her back as she continued, hopefully, south.

The crumbling buildings around her seemed to start to get further, as she saw a limping figure come out from an alley about 20 feet ahead of her. With trembling hands, Marigold pulled out her only weapon, an SOG knife that her father had pressed into her hand as she was fleeing from her torn home. The small footsteps started to rush towards one of the crumbling buildings. "Please please please, don't see me!"

The zombie continued it's trek across the deserted road, the small 15 year old snuck past as quietly as possible. The knife trembled in her hands as she found a door into the building, slightly open. She started to pull on it, "CREEEEAAAAAK!!"

The small girl had already darted from the door, as the monster turned toward the noise. "Okay, distracted you from where I wanted to go, so now for that building" her legs carried her to the building the fungoid was headed before the noise. She slipped through the narrowly opened door without a noise and began the tedious search for food.

The building she had entered used to be a condominium, lots of floors, lots of rooms, and hopefully lots of food. She had a feeling that there would be nothing on the first floor, except for a pool, as the lingering years old chlorine smell told her. "Mom and dad loved pools" her thoughts drifted, until she realized this and shook her head out. "I don't need to give myself these memories, they'll only bring more nightmares..." she whispered, beating herself over her own carelessness in her mind.

In the distance, the sound of far away bullets being fired was suddenly heard, startling some of the fungoids outside towards the noise. "Oh man, I hope everyone's okay..."

It took a while for her to find the stairs, the bottom floor surprisingly empty and void of any life except for plants. The plants probably creeped Marigold out the most, only because it reminded her that she had been so protected from this terror. The corners of her eyes started to fill with tears, as she realized she didn't even know about this destruction for a little more than a week. "I'm sorry" she whispered to those who couldn't escape this fate.

Her legs climbed the stairs, the railing broken in some points. She reached the second floor and quietly walked out, looking both ways, finding it deserted again. She began a slow and steady pace through the corridor to the first room. The door was non-existent, but the hinges showed there once was a door. The room was a three in one room; the kitchen, living room, and even bedroom seems to have been set up in this one medium sized room. Her eyes instantly went to the cabinets and the fridge, "Mom would put cans of food in the cupboards, and even the pantry!" She opened every cabinet, sometimes having to go on her tip toes to reach the handle, only to find one pitiful can of peaches. The can went straight into her backpack.

Next she tried to find the pantry, opening every door she could, "Did these people not have a pantry?!" the idea of that was ludicrous to her, as her mother made such a big deal about the pantry every day.

A small sigh escaped her as she moved onto the next room. She realized that there were about 20 rooms on a floor, "okay... if I find just one can in a room, then I get to go back!" she exclaimed quietly.

Each room held something, whether food, or destruction. One of the rooms she couldn't even walk into without throwing up right then and there. The bed in the main room had a body, a bullet hole through the head. That wasn't the worse part though, there was a baby in the corpse's arms, looking as though it starved to death. "Waaaaah!" inside her head she could hear the wails of the child as her mother laid there unmoving, forced to stay in her arms for eternity. The blood on the wall behind had long caked over, with words carved into the blood, "I'M SORRY"

Marigold was forced to skip some rooms, gathering 18 cans of food, as some rooms had more than one can of food. She was sure that she could find the rest on that floor if she went into the destruction rooms, but her mentality couldn't handle it. She managed to get back to the stairs, only to hear the unmistakable "Uhhhhhhr" of the monsters above her. She closed her eyes for a while, taking deep breaths to calm herself, her hand moving to her hair, the strands being twirled.

"Can I do this? Of course you can! Then why won't I move? Because you're a coward! Dad would be despised at you. No... He would! Suck it up and deal with it! Mom and dad didn't die for nothing! But I'm scared... You're always scared! You're pathetic! You will die out here and no one will care! I'm sorry... I'm trying... You runt! Nobody will miss you"

This internal fight continued, tears rolling down the young girls face, "You're useless, just go back to that room of yours and cry yourself to sleep, like every other night." She looked up the stairs, and decided she couldn't do it, she was going to return back to her refuge. "I should try another building... Do you really think you'll get this lucky again? No monsters on two floors? Hah! You truly are a fool" Even though her internal voices were saying such things, she went down the stairs then realized that there was a room that looked to be used for banquets. She wiped the tears from her eyes, leaving stains on her sweatshirt sleeve. She ran towards it, begging that there be enough cans of food to go back.

The banquet hall was in ruins as well, tables flipped on end along with their chairs. She dashed to the back, finding the kitchen-like building with cupboards, cabinets, and even a closet. "There's gotta be at least two cans in here!" she stated, hope flaring inside her heart again. She opened the cupboards first, finding another can. She opened all of the cabinets, but there was nothing. "Oh please" she whispered, as she slowly opened the closet.

She gasped in disbelief, getting choked up by how much food there was in this one closet, "Oh my gosh" she said in a hushed tone. In the closet sat at least 20 cans of different kinds of food. Marigold stared at it for a couple of moments before realizing that she needed to gather as much as possible, and tell others about this stash. She started to put a couple more cans in her backpack, before she realized she could now barely lift it, "Uh oh..." she muttered. She emptied the bag, then counted exactly 20 to put in her backpack. It was just light enough for her to, slightly, uncomfortably carry the bag.

She began the trek back to her faction, gingerly walking, until she realized the cans made a lot of noise on her back. She thought for a bit, and decided that she would walk until the monsters heard her, then she would have to sprint it.

She only got about 10 steps outside before she heard the moans of the monsters behind her, the cans rattling loudly in the bag. Marigold started to sprint, her legs going as fast as they could in order to escape South Edenberg. She was able to remember the route in which she had come, and followed it home.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Her loud pants were heard from Mink, who stood outside of the main building, awaiting the return of her members. Mink raised an eyebrow at the small girl darting towards her, then looked behind the girl and put a palm to her face, sighing as well. Mink pulled out her crossbow and aimed it nearly at the girl, "Duck!" Mink shouted to her. Marigold instantly dropped to the ground, an arrow whizzing over her head, straight into the skull of the infected behind her. The blonde girl looked behind her, while on her hands and knees, to see the monster killed.

Letting out a sigh of relief, Marigold stood up and walked the rest of the way to Mink, "You're lucky I was here" the leader looked down at the girl, a serious look in her eyes.

"I know... but I had to get away, and I also needed to get back and let everybody else know where I found a stash of food!" the girl removed the backpack from her shoulders, rolling them out.

    "A stash? How big?"

Marigold's eyes shown, "Over 20 cans of food, not even counting what I took already!"

Mink's lips curled up slightly, "Good job Mari, I'll let them know, just tell me." The girl described the building, and the fact that the monsters weren't on the first and second floors. Mink nodded, "Okay Mari, I'll grab your reward, then send someone to get the rest of that food"

Marigold let out a sigh of relief, as she watched Mink walk away with the backpack Marigold had put on the ground. "I knew I was useful. Except in saving your parents"

Yeah, she's pretty messed up in the head, and being alone isn't the best idea for her sanity at the moment XD

Yea, I kinda did that on purpose, I'm not good at the whole fighting scenes, and I get myself distracted while writing, and then that scene ends up being rushed and a terrible read x.x

I was thinking about doing a collab with ya again, but I thought this would be better for those reading her story to get into the depths of her mind XD

people tell me my writing is good Dx I don't know why tho ;v;

We can always collab something together that isn't mission related I think.
IDK if we could do that. But hey, next mission we shoud collab again, that was fun last time
