This is what you missed on Livestream tonight.I got this in my head during Anthropology class.
And I thought: why not? and rolled with it.
I wanted to create an unconventional main charecter that people wouldn't normally side with, but somehow they could relate to.
Hope you understand the point behind this strip.
Please read it twice.

I feel like I have stumbled upon a good idea here. How best to take this medium to the next level is a mystery to me.

I think the brevity and sensitivity (cuteness) of this piece are what have combined to make it so appealing.Β I don't know that this could be pushed much further.Β Making the story longer would cost you the number of people who would read it, and I don't think adding some greater degree of "completion" to the artwork is going to make it "better," just different.Β I think it's beautifully expressive the way it is.Β Perhaps some theme of unattainable loves could be explored with a series of stories?

Maybe, I just wondered if I should develop the charecter, as his pining for this woman (I think I'll call her Cindy) is not his one and only occupation.

I think the answer to that depends on what you want the piece to do: satisfy your desire to create a sympathetic character out of the spider, or reach a lot of eyes.Β Despite what the people who leave the majority of the comments on this site would have you believe (which is to say that the people who are willing to follow a long story and have expectations about character development and will actually take the time to leave a comment are VASTLY outnumbered by the people who really don't care about any of those things), the brevity to this story is one of its more significant aspects.Β And I happen to think it's one of the things that makes it so strong.

You could probably get away with a sequel or two, but the full story on one page formula works really well here.

I see. Just wanted to show more of what he does FOR her that she never appreciates, cos I mean she only sees the spider crawling out of her tub, but what if I battled a Scorpion to protect his woman and shoved his beaten carcass down the drain to dispose of the body... you know Spiders can't climb out of the bathtubs right? They're pretty much screwed one they fall in.

I know brown recluses are.Β I've come across a couple of them in my tub.
See, I think that if you have a spider / scorpion fighting-for-love scene, it would be cool, but those six other people who just left comments about "DAAWWWW!Β I would totally give Jim a hug!" would totally not read that comic.

Nice comic Spiders still creep me out I fear them so but my bro used to deal with them and put them outside. I've feared spiders since I was little. I don't mind them so much if they stay outside. I think what really started my fear was when I was little a spider made it's web in front of the front door using the door frame my mom almost walked in it's web.Β

I can see that... but you know that's just how phobias are passed down. We see something happen and someones reaction (while we're too young to know why) tells us we should also be fearful and so it carries on.
My irrational fear of brirds coems from my stepfather, who (I found out when I was 14 and got my first hamster) was scared of all small creatures.
I grew up only knowing that the bird that flew in through the kitchen window was the reason for dad to go defcon 1 on the thing.
Had I been older I would have seen this as his personal problem and not a problem all humans should share.
I shared in his phobia because as children we learn what adults to in order to survive.
Dad hunts: I must hunt
we eat: we survive
Dad runs from tigers: we must ALL run from tigers
we live to hunt another day.
If dad shrieks like a girl and climbs up a lampost this must be an advanced survival technique. So we learn it.
It's bad for us to follow this pattern, but we can't help it... the only way to stop it is to show your children there's no need to fear.
And that my friend is the biggest challenge of all: going against all you know to be true "Spiders = danger" but if I must hold a bird and tell my kids there's nothing to fear to help them live a normal life it is what I must do.
Conquer your fear, if not for your own health for theirs.
You're a warrior... teach your kids to be fearless.

I know, but sometimes I'm in a bad mood and someone posts something about babies with cancer and stuff that makes my day worse.
