Description Chapter 1

Years have gone by. Over time, young K’aloo grew to a playful and curious child. He grew up on the east coast of the land, inside a bordered plateau that provided a abundance of food, water, and protection from predators. It was a beautiful place to live, yet this peaceful area doesn’t have a lot of fun activities for a growing T-Rex to do.

“Gotcha!” K’aloo exclaimed, splitting a bush in half as he jumped in, only to find nothing but a lone lizard eating a handful of berries. K’aloo groaned in frustration as he closed the bush’s opening.

“Where‘s Yuna?” K’aloo asked himself while scratching the sides of his neck with his miniscule arms. At that moment, the light pink Hadrosaur tumbled out of a reddish-orange bush and landed on the ground with a thud.

“Aww, crud! I messed up again, didn’t I?” Yuna exclaimed.

“Not really. I mean, you definitely hid longer than last time.” K’aloo replied.

Yuna turned her head several times until she was finally able to make out K’aloo’s blurry shape. She gave a soft grin as she locked her faded light blue eyes on K’aloo.

“Hide-and-seek was never my favorite game, anyway. Let’s go over to the Great lake! Mom and the herd are already there.” Yuna said.

“I don’t know. The last time we all went to the Great lake together, the herd’s leaders gave me weird looks.” K’aloo said. Yuna shook her head as she walked up to her adoptive brother.

“You just gotta ignore the elders. They’re a bunch of cranky, judgemental old farts who dislike anything that’s not their species. It’s not your fault you were born a T-Rex.” Yuna said. K’aloo sighed and nodded his head in agreement.

“Alright, we’ll go. But only for a few minutes...” K’aloo said. The two youngsters raced to the Great lake that was settled on the far left of the plateau, approaching their herd. The Hadrosaurs were busy eating the tasty, bright green grass while talking amongst one another. Maua, K’aloo and Yuna’s mother, had been anxiously searching for her two children when she spotted the duo approaching the herd, quickly making her way over to the siblings.

“Where have you two been? I thought I clearly said to come to the Great lake hours ago. I was about to go looking for you!” Maua exclaimed.

“Sorry, mom. We were just playing in the forest over there.” K’aloo replied. Maua sighed and turned to the herd, escorting Yuna and K’aloo to the lake. As he approached the water to drink, K’aloo turned towards the herd’s leader, who approached the T-Rex.

“Maua, why did you bring him here?” The herd leader asked. K’aloo shot a hateful glare at the male Hadrosaur in anger.

“Toka, K’aloo has every right to join the herd wherever they travel. He’s a member of our herd.” Maua answered.

“Since when did a filthy carnivore gain the right to join my herd?!” Toka snapped, giving a scornful glare at K’aloo. He whacked the little T-Rex on the snout with his tail, causing K’aloo to yelp painfully.

“TOKA!” Maua shouted angrily, stomping the ground while getting into the Hadrosaur’s face.

“Your little monster doesn’t belong in the herd. He NEVER will.” Toka growled.

“That monster is my son! Don’t you EVER lay a paw on him again!!” Maua threatened. Toka shoved Maua back, snorting steam from his nostrils.

“Don’t ever talk to me in that tone again, or you and your children will be ousted out of my herd faster than a Velociraptor can catch a dragonfly!” Toka warned. He gave a hateful look to Yuna and K’aloo.

“I don’t want that disgusting carnivore or your useless daughter interacting with any of the younglings. They’re tainting the children with their weakness.” Toka said, earning a disgusted scoff from Maua.

“Oh, now you’re insulting my daughter, too?!” Maua exclaimed.

“Of course I am. Your blind daughter is a blemish to my herd! Look at her, she can’t see where she’s going. She has no purpose other than to be someone else’s footstool! She’s a pathetic waste of breath! Clearly, you’ve been cursed with a weak bloodline.” Toka hissed. K’aloo had just enough with the insults.

“DON’T TALK ABOUT MY SISTER THAT WAY!!!!” K’aloo screamed, sinking his sharp teeth in the arrogant leader’s hind leg. Toka screamed painfully as he began kicking wildly while trying to throw K’aloo off. The little T-Rex lost his grip and sailed into the water, jumping out right as he recovered from the fall.

“I’LL KILL YOU!!!” Toka roared, rearing up on his hind legs and lifting his forelimbs to crush K’aloo underfoot. Maua rammed Toka in his side, shoving him into the water.

“I HAD ENOUGH OF YOU, TOKA! YOU’VE DONE NOTHING BUT CRITICIZE, INSULT, AND THREATEN MY CHILDREN EVER SINCE THEY HATCHED! I’M DONE WITH YOU AND YOUR SELF-CENTERED PREFERENCES! I’M OUT OF THIS HERD!” Maua screamed, kicking Toka in the face with her hind leg as she turned to leave.

“Come on, kids. Let’s go.” Maua said, walking away from the lake with K’aloo and Yuna.

“Maua, you get back here!! MAUA!!!” Toka screamed, but his command fell on deaf ears.

As K’aloo and his family walked through the forest, the little T-Rex looked at his mother with a slightly anxious expression.

“Mom, are you.... mad at me?” K’aloo asked.

“Mad? Why would I be mad at you, sweetie?” Maua replied.

“We had to leave the herd because I bit Toka...” K’aloo said.

“K’aloo, you did the right thing by standing up for your sister. Toka is nothing but a big fat egghead that wastes his time looking at himself in the water’s reflection.” Maua said, earning a wholehearted laugh from Yuna and K’aloo. Maua wrapped her arms around the two children in a big hug, crooning to them in a loving tone.

“You both are the only things in the world I care about the most. I love you so much.” Maua said, smiling.
