Description Thank you for taking the time to visit my gallery! Faves, comments, collecting, and recommendations are always appreciated. Also, I invite you to download this image to use as desktop wallpaper. Please respect my work by not printing, selling, or reposting it.

Since moving to the Pacific Northwest, I have been fortunate enough to see (and photographing) hundreds of waterfalls. Proxy Falls remains my favorite. If you visit the Pacific Northwest, you should make every attempt to visit this incredible waterfall. If you have a camera, you can easily spend an entire afternoon here. Trail information/directions can be found here.

I made my annual pilgrimage on Friday the 13th (of August). This is one of the keepers. Also see:

If you missed it, here is my frontal shot from last year's "Proxy Photo Pilgrimage":

(Technical details: Nikon D90, Manfrotto 190CXPRO3 tripod, Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX lens, Hoya Circular Polarizer, f/11, 1 second.)

If you enjoy this photo, please take a few moments to visit my Waterscapes gallery.

Special thanks to for taking the time to help me decide which studies to keep!

Thanks for pointing this out, I've been to Salt Creek Falls [link] and Crater Lake [link] but I haven't had a chance to go here yet. I live in Wisconsin right now, but I plan (so far) to move to Salem, Oregon in July. I'll put this place on my "to go to" list.

Salt Creek Falls and Crater Lake are both fine destinations (especially Crater Lake). When you return to Oregon, you must visit Proxy Falls. I am confident that you will love it as much as I do!

It is magical... one of my favorite places on this planet.

I hope it stays magical. I don't mean to sound like an environmental-green-geek, but I hate it when people (especially tourists) litter everywhere and destroy these magical best sites on the planet before the future generations even get to step foot on them... Doesn't it annoy you?? But well done for capturing this. It proves you're not like them!

I agree completely. It is always disgusting and saddening to find litter along the trails, especially soda/beer bottles... if people can carry them in full, they should be able to carry them empty!

I have often been conflicted with respect to off-trail rarely-seen locations (generally waterfalls). Devil's Staircase was a great example of such a conflict. Fortunately, I was able to donate that photograph to a group who is working to get that area declared as Federal Wilderness, which would protect it for future generations.

I think that you've done the right thing by trying to protect the environment, and I completely agree about the carrying the bottles! (plus, they're less heavy when they're empty, anyway!)When there's no clean patch left on earth, people will realize what they have done

Absolutely. To quote the Native American proverb: "Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat money."

I went to Proxy falls recently. Went there way too late in the day though. By the time I got to at least see the falls (from far away) the sun had already set and I had to turn around. Definitely going to go back one day soon though.

Sorry that the conditions were not good when you arrived. You should absolutely return! I know that I will.

Oh, it's my fault though. It was just a spur-of-the-moment trip and we left too late in the day.

When you return, try for a cloudy/overcast (even a bit rainy) day. That will be best for photography.

It's a fantastic waterfall no matter what the weather, but much trickier to photograph if partly in sun.

You're quite welcome. If you plan to visit, be aware that the highway leading to the trailhead is only open from approximately mid-June through mid-October.

Thanks again for your feedback! You probably have another week or two to visit this year. When you go, be sure to plan for a cloudy/overcast day to maximize the photographic opportunities.
