Description

20-11-FE-B variant "Belly Boat" Infantry Barge.

The Alliance Infantry barge is designed to transport a fully equipped 200,000 unit army to various theaters of war across the Alliance borders. After transport, the vessel becomes an orbital supply and support point for the ground troops, as well as a staging ground for reinforcements, bomber and fighter runs, ground resupply runs, and emergency medical evacuation rally point. It has a crew of 5000, including the 24 multi-role fighter pilots, and the 12 heavy bomber crews.

The vessel is armed with large, dual plasma flak guns that can generate a layered defence wall of plasma explosions to defeat incoming missiles and strike craft, as well it has smaller precision fire quad light blaster guns. The vessel is heavily shielded and moderately armoured for a transport. It relies on an escort fleet to defend it from larger enemy craft.

Standard compliment: 40 Fast Troop Transports, 20 Fast Cargo Transports. 48 Combat Shuttles, 24 Multi-role Fighters, 12 Heavy Bombers, 12 Ambulance Shuttles, 2 Stealth Shuttles, 4 Cargo Shuttles, 4 Utility Shuttles.

The belly of the vessel is almost all curved armour plating and shields, while the op half is the operations area.

The top half sports 2 divided landing pads that angle into the hull (the end of the ramp is flush with the hull), these lead into internal hangars with reinforced blast doors. Along the dual landing pads are individual combat shuttle hangars to allow units to preload and be ready for rapid deployment.

Below the main pad are 2 twin fighter bays where response fighters and bombers can launch and remain clear of the main pad. Below the pad is the maintenance and storage for the transports, shuttles, and fighters/bombers, as well as the repair bays. operational ground vehicles will be stored here as well. The pad is long to accommodate incoming troop transports rapid landing under combat conditions. This allows the larger transports to get inside the defensive envelope at speed, then slow once safely inside. Larger vessels that do not fit inside the hangar, such as the heavy combat transport (Shown with escape capsule bridge and cargo shuttle) can be offloaded on the pads as they support a magnetically sealed atmosphere.

Onboard are spartan quarters for enlisted, cramped split quarters for lower officers, and basic single quarters for higher officers. As well it has a 150 personnel medical center, 4 (100m x60m x25m) adjustable environmental training spaces, 18 dining spaces, 4 basic recreation rooms, 10 fabrication shops (clothing, gear, weapons), 2 small basic research labs, 200 conference spaces, 2 light arms firing ranges, 100 private long range comms rooms (for soldiers to call home with in private), 2 flight control towers, as well as normal ship spaces.

The vessel is meant to allow the Alliance to rapidly gather and deploy a ground response force, training the army on the planetary specifics en-route with the conference and training rooms. They can modify equipment and tactics to better suit the engagement zone, and will sometimes hold outside of the naval zone waiting for better intelligence and safe landing vectors.

In 1 planetary cycle the transports can fully deploy its entire ground force, their vehicles, and a beachhead worth of supplies. Each barge is assigned to one Army group, but multiple army groups may join and intermix forces for specific operations.
