Generally not a big fan of fannon things, but the theory that Aizawa was in general studies at UA and got into the hero course by demolishing the Sports Festival, including a very startled Yamada who was so used to screaming everything into submission he absolutely did not see it coming appeals to me.Though I don’t think Yamada would have been an easy beat either, even a few seconds blinking is enough time to do some pretty nasty damage so he needs two levels of shut the hell up from Aizawa.
