Description
This painting is my entry for the HTTYD3: Discover Your Duo contest! As soon as I heard about the contest, I knew I had to enter,! Anyone who knows myself and my partner knows that HTTYD is one of the most important things in the world to us, especially my partner. It has brought us together, two people with so many differences but so many things that connect us, so I thought Toothless and the Lightfury (or Luna, from the books - what a perfect name) would be a perfect approximation. Although the contest is about the 'duo', I couldn't resist the opportunity to draw the Night Lights too! After all, they're the product of this amazing couple coming together, and a symbol of their connection.
This painting was honestly a joy to create, and I feel like I learned a lot during it too! There's so many gorgeous entrants in this contest, and I wish everyone good luck! Also Dean, if you're reading this, thank you for an amazing decade of stories! I can't wait to see what's next.

I think they wrapped up the series wonderfully, but I wouldnβt mind a spin off/netflix episodes like RTTE where Hicstridβs children discover the nightlights and start their own adventures. Something placed far into the future, where the kids are young adults. As hiccup said, the world doesnβt deserve dragons βyetβ

I love this so much.
The only thing I really hated about that movie was honestly the babies. I enjoyed that there WAS babies but they clearly established a sexual dimorphism (being that the males were black and the female white) and then just threw that out the window. Like I know they did it to go "look at how cute they are. It's a combination of the two" but it's like establishing that males of one species are smaller than the females and then making others just completely throw out that rule.

Actually, the Lightfury is a subspecies, not a female Nightfury! There are male Lightfuries as well, and they're all pure white. So it makes sense that their colours combined

I've learned that later through the "Word-of-God" but
I don't feel that they clearly established it in the movie.
Unless you count stuff like the different body-types, etc.
They at least never actually SAID it.

guessing word-of-god but I'm curious now)

I can't remember exactly where in the film they mention it (I wasn't very happy with how they explained her either so don't worry), but it's confirmed that Light Furies are a cousin species to Night Furies, like alligators and crocodiles in a way, and are able to mate together the same way lions and tigers or horses and donkeys can, creating a new hybrid creature

I looked it up because I was curious.
Apparently they're literally panthers and snow leopards, lol.
That was the inspiration for the behavior of each dragon. So yeah
pretty much cats that can make more babies. Still bothers me that
at least one of them didn't turn out mostly black though.Β
