π www.patreon.com/missholly πDo you remember my illustration « Song of the lake Β» from last year ? I had planned a sister illustration with a koto player back then, but life happened and I didnβt have the time or energy to do it. But now at last, here it is, thanks to my patrons
I called it « Song of the moonΒ Β» of course. In Japan they say that the markings on the moon resemble a rabbit pounding mochi rice, hence the association between the moon and rabbits.I like to think my rabbits descended from the moon, drawn to earth by the sound of the koto. My husband, ever the romantic, said the rabbits would poop all over the tatami. But rabbits from the moon donβt poop

Oh, I've loved the tale of the moon rabbits ever since my partner told it to me! This is a stunningly charming piece dedicated to the story. I especially adore the spread of flower petals, and how adorable those bunnies are.
The story of the moon rabbits actually originated in China then spread throughout the rest of Asia. It seems to be a common misconception that Japan was the place of its origin. Although, I believe the story has some slight differences depending on what part of Asia you hear it in. It remains a lovely tale in every version though!
