Description A little experiment with deviantART muro

It's everyone's favorite Elven Nazis! I can't believe no one made this joke yet, so I went ahead and did.

Took about 3 hours or so. 5 layers. I'll need to practice more with this mouse.

If anyone wants to see that cool video thingy that DaMuro makes when you draw something in it, let me know. Basically it's like a livestream video.

What the Thalmor don't realize is that their falling right into the Daedras' grasp without even realizing it. If they remove Mundus from the equation, they also remove Akatosh/Auriel and the rest of the Aedra from the equation as well, given that the Divines are permanently bound to Nirn. It will give the Daedra what they always wanted; a primordial sea of chaos and discord, which they thrive on.

Except it's not as simple as that. The Daedra aren't simply demons, like other settings have. They represent many things. Dagon might relish in the destruction of the world, but others have things they are quite attached to there. Plus, one of them is the lord of Order.

A highly nationalistic and supremacist organization? The parallels are pretty clear.

I know the lore, they not only want to destroy man but remove the possibility of man from the universe, in the belief that man is an imperfection in the pattern which denies elves' godhood.

BrightScale In reply to HugoLuman [2013-06-24 09:44:07 +0000 UTC]

So they are the Nazis for tryin to ban the worship of a man who tired- and Unfortunatly succeeded taking over Tamriel by force, slaughtered hundreds of elves, after the battle was over and forcefully added them to his empire because be belives himself and men to be better.

Dosent that sound a little backwards?

And they never said they wanted to destroy man- hell, one of the gods in the Elven pantheon is a man.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HugoLuman In reply to BrightScale [2013-06-25 01:00:56 +0000 UTC]

Their main purpose isn't to ban Talos, they ban Talos because they are mer-supremacists and believe worship of Talos is hubris. The events of Oblivion show that Tiber Septim, who became Talos, did actually achieve godhood, and he manifests in Morrowind, albeit in a small way. However, the existence of such a being runs counter to Thalmor purposes. Their philosophy is an extremist form of the Altmer belief that at one point elves existed in a state of perfection, unified with the cosmos, but Lorkhan disrupted this perfect state and Men are the degenerate result. So long as they exist, Elves cannot return to immortality. Or at least, so the Thalmor believe

Are you refering to Pelinal Whitestrake? They do not include him in their pantheon.

I have done both, including the reading.

And Think of it as if Osama Bin Laden took over the world forcefully, broke up the UK, and took control. Then was made a god. He might still have be a god, but he did nothing actually worthy of being worshipped. He is a very evil Character in the view of the Bosmer and Altmer, considering he murdered and forcefully added him to his empire with the use of the unstoppable Dwemer golem. The Altemeri Dominion was a peaceful union of the pillaged and attacked Summerset Isles, the un-unified Valenwood and the Civil war wracked Elsweyr for mutual benefit. So their combined force pushed off the attacks from the Sloads and Moamer on Summerset, and the Altmer stopped the fighting in Elsweyr and gave Valenwood a unified government. Then Tiber Septum shoved in on a quest for him and his race's power to take over the entire Continent. And it wasn't only Altemeri that didn't want to join, Hammerfell, High rock, and everywhere but Skyrim really didn't want to join. So not only has Man caused the extinction or deterioration of three races of Mer, took their homeland and then forced them into a empire, they then made a man who fucked them over a god. I understand why they want to stop the worship.

And I'm referring to Lorkhan, the hero of Mankind- though not actually man, he is the god over men, and on their side.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HugoLuman In reply to BrightScale [2013-06-25 04:36:55 +0000 UTC]

The Summerset Isles were never actually conquered. Tiber Septim was never able to get the Numidium there, as it was destroyed by the Worm King (Septim's battlemage, whose soul powered the brass god) and eventually the Altmer signed on as an essentially autonomous state for economic reasons. Non-altmer have never been allowed on their islands, and only rarely have any actually been.

While they do dislike Talos worship for cultural reasons, the Thalmor are not leading a crusade against Talos. They are leading a crusade against men, and thus do not want the worship of a former man to continue. Their objective is nothing less than to return the world to the state it was in before Lorkhan interfered (as they erroneously belive he did, though his interference was tricking the other gods into creating the world) so that they may reshape it in their image. To do this, they must destroy the "towers" that anchor the world. These include White Gold tower in Cyrodil, the Adamantine Tower in High Rock, the "Brass Tower" (likely the Numidium), the Throat of the World, Red Mountain, and others only speculated.

They are by no means good-guys, and their actions are no more justified than the Imperials in slaughtering Bosmer thousands of years ago, and Kahjiit when they mistook them for elves.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BrightScale In reply to HugoLuman [2013-06-25 04:56:14 +0000 UTC]

Ah- however, it was still forced into the empire- and surely had they not agreed the battle would had continued.

Actually, Non-Altmer are allowed on the island and some have even risen to nobles.

It has never been stated (As far as I knw) That they want to destroy man. Simply reclaim their homeland and power. They wouldn't want to destroy the White-Gold-tower in any case, as it was built by mer as a temple, previously called the tower of Ancestors until Man invaded and pushed them back off their homeland. (Once the mer were overthrown the religious statues were removed, scattered and the tower sacked), the Adamantine Tower build by the gods.

And Though not concurred by the golem, the golem was used to slaughter all of the royal families in tamriel that did not side with him- so basically every Altmer royal.

No- every single party in Tamriel- Empire, Dominion, Stormcloaks, everyone is wrong and has done wrong in this situation, but the Elves have had the most substantial damage done to them. They lost three races due to man, more than half their land, their dominion and then the man who fucked them over most was made a god. They are not innocent- no one is, but they have justification for what they have done and are doing, and really got the short end of the stick in their entire history.

HugoLuman In reply to BrightScale [2013-06-30 07:40:33 +0000 UTC]

Bear in mind that before men slaughtered elves, the elves enslaved men for milenia, ruling with an iron fist. And they did not lose 3 races to men, they only lost the Aylieds. Their actions are not just, they are holding a grudge thousands of years old against entities no longer technically present. In their homeland the emphasize racial purity and tolerate no ideological deviation, a very Nazi-like approach.

Dig a little deeper, though, the Thalmor are out to destroy mankind. A liberal bent happened in Summerset during the past 200 years, which enabled non-mer to come to the islands and even hold office, but when the Thalmor rose to power they had a racial and political purge. Read their letters, read Michael Kirkbride's short stories.

Lord0Slayer In reply to HugoLuman [2013-08-16 19:22:25 +0000 UTC]

Even though it's never mentioned anywhere in Skyrim, it is now an official part of the lore that the Thalmor want to obliterate humanity under the mistaken belief that it will allow them to become the superior, divine entities that they believe they used to be. This is almost a perfect parallel to the Third Reich's ideology about racial purity, and how the so-called Aryan race is being held back from it's true potential because of pollutants in the gene pool, the Jewish people being the biggest target, but by no means the only group that was or would have been targeted. And as HugoLuman has already explained quite nicely, the Thalmor have set up a socialistic dictatorship in which only supporters of the Thalmor have any political voice on either the Summerset Isles, or anywhere else in the Dominion, cracking down harshly against anyone who opposes them, also very Nazi-like (or any sort of dictatorship or autocracy, for that matter). Furthermore, the Thalmor are allowed to run rampant throughout the Empire and it's provinces in order to arrest (read as "kidnap") people who refuse to stop worshiping Talos, and then lead them off to some unknown but no doubt terrible fate. I really hope that I don't have to point out the Nazi-Germany parallel in this.

As for this absurd notion that Tiber Septim was some kind of mass-murdering tyrant who subjugated the nonhuman peoples of Tamriel, Tamriel was in an awful state. Everyone was constantly at war with one another. The Third Era had it's share of problems, but until the Oblivion Crisis it was probably one of the less strenuous eras for everyone overall. Rather like how the Roman Empire (which is what the Septim Empire is analogous to) united most of Europe, North Africa and the Near East. Nobody talks about how the Romans were evil, and its for the same reason that Talos and the Empire aren't evil. But the sad thing about empires (or nations in general), is that not everyone who is in it wants to be a part of it. But if you let everyone go who disagrees with you, pretty soon the only thing you rule if your house. Another unfortunate fact of being a ruler: It's very hard to be a strong leader and still be a nice guy.Β

The Aylied enslavement of Men was so brutal that Akatosh himself intervened to stop it, forming his covenant with Alessia that began the line of Dragon-blood emperors.

And you can't say "The Elves" because all that occurred happened after they had split into several radically different races. Historically, the Altmer have had it good, ruling trade in the southern seas and controlling a vast amount of magical power. The only thing the Altmer ultimately lost in the war against Talos was control over Valenwood, who got the short end both from their former masters and during conquest from the Imperials. The Bosmer have had it rough, but they don't control that Thalmor. They're very much in a position of second in command.

BrightScale In reply to HugoLuman [2013-07-01 17:50:57 +0000 UTC]

Aylieds are one. Lefthanded elves the second, and snow elves the third.

And remember, in that time period, slavery was normal. Elves had slaves, men had slaves. It was an average thing. Men and Elves both did it.

Plus, keep in mind, their lifespan are about 4x as long as mans, so something that happened to a nords 15th great grandpa, happened to an elves great grandpa. With a life that long, memories last, and such things endure.

And I wouldn't, if I were you, use your mine cite behind an argument the stories written by a man who quit after morrowind, before the thalmor existed, and have never canonly been used in the lore. They are about as credible as fan fictions.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HugoLuman In reply to BrightScale [2013-07-01 20:33:16 +0000 UTC]

Things hinted at in the short stories have come to pass, however. Kirkbride did help write, and had access to, the long-term story plans for the series. So they're a bit more credible than mere fanfiction.

The Falmer were far removed from their kin, a different people than the Altmer. The elven people aren't some big unified brotherhood, they're as divided as Men. The Altmer consider themselves closer to the source and thus purer than other elves, not to mention everyone else. The Nords killed the Falmer, there was no great elven genocide perpetrated by a unified force of all Men against all Elves. The Aylieds enslaved the entire population of Cyrodil, making their lives an absolute nightmare for generations.

The Thalmor are extremists and obvious ultranationalists. In the game itself, they say their purpose is to "put men in their place" and "remind men who their rightful masters are." They are quite obviously supposed to be similar to Nazis, and their actions aren't anymore justified than anyone else's, if not less so. Reading the Thalmor letters in-game, you might find mention of the Towers.

BrightScale In reply to HugoLuman [2013-07-01 20:54:40 +0000 UTC]

I don't see how half of what you said is relevant, but ok. But remember, men also took argonian, khajiit, other men and sometimes elves as slaves. It was a two way thing.

And they are not 'quite obviously' related to nazis. Tell me one thing, which is the greater evil, stopping the worship of a man who fucked their race over and murdered Every. Elven. Royal. And considering yourself better than those who did it as we'll as taking slaves in a time where everyone took slaves, or taking over a continent forcefully, disbanding the government, killing off three races, killing the royal and Nobel families because they did not want to join the empire, and considering yourself better and taking slaves in a time where everyone took slaves.

I fail to see how the elves are the bad guys in this situation. Everyone fucked up. Yes, elves, men, pretty much the only clean people are the beast races. But all in all, elves got the short end of the stick, and are trying to right that now.

And however much Kirkbride helped, it was never officially used. So not actually credible.
