I guess you are missing some sidequest, it took me months to finish Xenoblade 2 because I was determined to finish every available sidequest before ending the game. and it is really great as you mention to see blades on the front lines or have for example climbing animations!

I didn't finish the final 4 unique monster fights. It's a shame because I was determined to max out community but I just can't deal with those guys.

Oh I just arrived to Adam's village and repaired the bridge, so I am not that there yet, if I can beat them with a reliable strategy other than grinding I will let you know
