Description He’s All that I Need (To Fall Into)

The soft sound of the rain was always soothing. But pitter-patting on the van, was even better.
It wasn’t often they got time alone. Well, okay, that was a lie. Fred always suggested he and Daphne go one way, while they went another. But not time like this. Usually, it was all of them together. The gang was never apart.

Tonight they were.

Scooby lay curled contentedly at their feet, the large Great Dane acting as if he were no smaller than a kitten. If she stuck out her toe, she bet she would hit soft fur and a warm body. But then he might move and the moment might be ruined. And when your moments came few and far between, you took them when you could.

Shaggy hangs his head sheepishly when Velma approaches him with the bloody shirt in her hands.

She doesn’t look mad. Really, he can’t name the expression on her face. It’s all too much. Her eyes dark with worry, brow furrowed in anger, lips pulled down in a way that screams ‘let me help you with whatever this is you’re going through’. He’s never been the smart one, by any far stretch, but he can tell his days of hiding his and Scoob’s ‘activities’ are over and done now.

“Wanna explain this?” She demands, but her voice is soft. She obviously hasn’t alerted Daphne and Fred to the blood, so she’s keeping it between them for now.

“Vel, I can-”

“Norville.”

He fights off a wince. She’s only called him ‘Norville’ once and even then, she was pretty upset with him. Her tone says it all: Don’t mess with me. “Me and Scoob…We like, have a side job.”

“Side job.” She sighs and sits down beside him. “Tell me everything.”

So he does.

She’s wrapped in his arms and it’s almost like being home. Every time he and Scooby come back from one of their hunts, whether she’s been able to figure out what they’re up against or not, to be in his arms when he comes home is a wonderful thing. To hold him and know he’s safe for another day is a small blessing.

He takes her glasses between two fingers and sets them aside, planting kisses across the bridge of her nose.

Velma’s pretty sure this is what heaven feels like. Wrapped in Shaggy’s arms with a dozy dog at their feet.

This is really terrific. I've meant to reply for weeks now, but I'm finally remembering it.

I really like Shaggy/Velma pairing. Of course, I'm seeing the actors from the movie in my head more than the cartoon characters.

Velma is so awesome. Even as angry as she is that Shaggy is keeping things from all of his friends, she doesn't yell or get livid with him. She merely demands to know what's really going on with his life. I would love to see how she found the shirt with blood on it. It makes me see Shaggy staggering in from a hunt and peeling this shirt off—it being stuck to his back from the drying blood that's oozed out of the huge, deep scratches on his back (from where some creature has tore his skin open). Being injured, his first notion would not be to dispose of the shirt but clean and patch up his wounds. I'd like to think that while Shaggy is in the bathroom attending to the gashes, Velma finds the shirt and is horrified by the damages and the blood.

Even thinking of rain fallng on the van, and the soft metallic rythym it makes as it hits the top of the vehicle, is soothing. To hold him and know he’s safe for another day is a small blessing. That's too adorable. It makes me wonder how many nights she lies awake worrying about where Shaggy is and what he's after. I bet she whispers things like "Be careful, Shaggy," in the dark of her bedroom as she stares out her bedroom window at the full (okay, any phase) moon.

I tend to go back and forth in my brain. Some nights, it's easier to see the cartoon characters, some nights the actors from the movies.

That makes me really wanna write that now. Especially since my Harley/Joker series, I haven't gotten to write about blood and scratches in a while. To get into detail (under the skin, so to speak), I'm itching for it now.

That is really heartening, to think of how much she must worry about him whenever he goes out at night. And even thinking of him hunting werewolves on a full moon makes wanna dig up my copy of 'Scooby Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf', cheesy as that flick was (And it has Scrappy Doo in it *shudders*)

I'm glad you think it's terrific. I believe this 'verse is becoming one of my favorites.

All the stories in my Scooby Doo 'verse can't all be doom and gloom and ANGST. Velma and Shaggy needed an nice, cuddly moment to themselves.

Yes, lucky lucky Velma.
