I've had this shot in the back of my mind for ages. Fortunately the stars aligned (quite literally) in the early hours of Sunday morning. Mars and Saturn can be seen just right of the milky way, low in the sky. A technically difficult shot with the light from Rifugio Locatelli playing havoc with the highlights.
One of my favourite places in the world that is especially beautiful in the evening when the crowds have gone home.

Beautiful shot, and very difficult! I love taking time exposures trying to catch meteors. One night I took a series of about 30 shots one right after the other, at 30 second time exposures. The surprise was when I clicked through the photos quickly looking for a specific shot, I noticed movement. There is about 6 shots where you can see a light source that looks like a star moving. The amount of time would have been about 3 minutes, and it is moving so slow that you can barely notice it. I still have no idea what it was. I do know that the planes that travel that route, cover a lot more distance on the pictures than this did. It is strange to say the least.
