Exercise, Superman, Pencil, Adobe Illustrator.Just messin' around, learning to ink digitally. Very early attempt. I went for a more traditional, old-fashioned style for Supes. The old, barrel-chested variety with the wind-snapping cape, easily confident posture, and winning smile. This is the primary image of Superman in my mind... inspired by the art of the legendary Man of Steel artists Joe Shuster, Wayne Boring, Curt Swan, and the masterful animation of the Max Fleischer Studios shorts.

Jerome, the first time I saw this, I remember thinking two things: 1) THIS is how Superman should look, especially the smile and 2) Jerome K Moore needs to be drawing Superman's comic book adventures.
Or, at the very least, a mini-series or graphic novel. Any chance of that happening?

Awesome work, for your "early attempt" this is just excellent! I've always love the original look, it is just too iconic and even when DC have done some changes, either they go back to original or something similar. (taking away the black suit story line). Anyway keep up the great work!

Excellent. Comparable to Neil Adams' work on the character (my favorite Supes artist followed probably by John Byrne). I agree with the other commentators who noted that this is what Superman should look like.

I adore the Fleischer Superman cartoons. The artistry is mind-blowing and the backgrounds are so deep with atmosphere. The confident, sturdy, smiling version is the way I see him as well. It's what makes him my favorite DC superhero.
You did an awesome job on coloring the lineart. It really added some depth to an otherwise flatly-colored drawing, and that ain't a bad thing at all. Anatomy is topnotch, and I love how you did his hair.
