This was a really cool conversation to read!  I did message and ask that credit be given, and it has been (Riot does indeed own the image)
It's ok to not be credited directly, it's just not the most polite either - and to be fair, my name isn't on her in the game, either.  

I know I made the one that the players get to see, and that you are enjoying here, so I like to think I'm winning.  Plus mine has Queen and the crown and all the things that tell the story!

Thank you for the reply it just burns me up to see people do these cut outs, like I said below they seem to target any image that strikes their fancy, regardless if editing it is allowed or not. Awesome work though, it's nice seeing the artist getting recognition for their work.

I don't see why you've put that in quotation marks, rendering in this context means to cut out the main focus of the image, which is exactly what this person has done.
Besides, while Jessi may have painted it, it belongs to Riot. That's how working with companies works, they own the content you produce for them.

Because this rendering category is meant for the 3d/special effect type rendering DA is more aware of, not the bastardization cut out bullshit that has seemed to have sprung up all over DA. You're absolutely right Riot does own this work, but they didn't make it, they commissioned it. Jessibeans made this, and it's not fair for other people to take it and claim it as their own work just because they erased the background and threw their own watermark/logo on it. It's shitty and it's bad etiquette all around. They are taking view, faves, and comments away from the person that put the work into making the art.

As an artist yourself i'm surprised by your lax view on this "legal" appropriation. If you can't see how wrong this is, i'm not sure anything anyone could say would sway your point of view. The artist of this piece is literally on Deviantart and couldn't even get credited by these cut out "renderers". Who ironically decided to throw their own mark on the work, could it be because they wanted credit for the so called work they did? I know the feeling, getting credit for your work is a pretty good feeling, this..not so much. It's not hard to find out who creates it, google reverse image search does a damn good job, especially for popular work such as this.

This is only one problem of many that DA has, people that grow off of taking away parts of someone else's work. So many "render" artists out there that do the same thing everyday and fail to properly credit anyone but themselves, the last person that deserves it. It's not just company artwork either, its any popular fan art or work they just like for some reason that gets this same treatment. You're giving them a easy slap on the wrist for something i'm almost certain wouldn't be fine if it was you in this artist's position. Because if you had the distinction to be commissioned by Riot, i'm positive you would want the credit of being the artist of the work shown. It's how our fanbase grows and we get recognized and we are afforded these opportunities.

Yeah, I was confused because that "render" is showing in the What's Hot right now and people comment on how awesome the artwork is. Of course that person doesn't try to explain that they are not the creator. And yes, I know it's a commissioned work for Riot, but this is a site for artists to display their artwork, not for uploading butchered versions of official LoL splashes. I don't even know what purpose do such cut-outs serve.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning him not crediting the artist, but in this case it's a little different as the artwork is now owned by a company (even if it was commissioned), and he got it from their sites, as said in one of his comments (he probably wasn't aware the original artist was on dA, Riot doesn't really place the artists names anywhere on the sites). I'm not saying he was completely right in doing what he did, but I can also see where he's coming from.

This is Evelynn, The Agony's Embrace - she was one of the original 40 champions in League of Legends.  She just had a complete visual and gameplay update, and this is the splash image I made to go along with her.  She's a (really op) Jungler.
