Description I knew right away that Freya was the goddess of sex. (I knew super well because of a show I’ve seen.) But, as confirmed through many gods and goddesses there is always more. And after some research, my compassion and admiration for her grew.

While I still wanted to keep her symbol of sex, mostly due to the fact that I view intercourse as something celestial and a place of sanctuary and bonding, I decided not to show much of her that involves sexual attraction. Instead, I invoked it through the common color of love, pink. As seen in her hair, garments and even her skin. While her skin may appear brown/black, it is actually pink, and because of her surroundings, the viewer sees it as a brown/black skin tone. I decided on creating her darker as I noticed many of the goddesses have a caucasian appearance, I wanted it diverse, and as Freya is often seen with light hair, I thought it’d look pretty on this version of Freya.

Freya has received a necklace and cloak made out of falcon feathers. I combined the two, and because the necklace is a symbol of “fire” or “amber”, I decided on a sun theme, which has a second reason as well. I chose a darker feathers for the kind of falcon, done so purely for different values in colors.

Returning to that sun theme, she is a goddess of fertility and has two daughters. Overall, she seemed like a warm, headstrong character. Thus, a sun fit her well. She can warm those around her in the most strikings of way, in love, sex, kindness and courage. As well, suns contribute to the growth of plants, adding to the fertility.

Much to my surprise, she is also a goddess of war and death. Which shouldn’t have been a surprise when I consider that show I’ve watched. This is why I’ve made her into a warrior and why her weapon is both gold and dark metals. The dark metals show the death and what war can contain. But it followed through with the sun image.

She is as well the goddess of gold, which, gold is seen throughout her entire outfit and was perfect with the sun. I chose a pink outline, once again, showed what most people view her as a goddess of, but it also made everything else stand out. Her eyes took me a few tries to figure out, but I decided to use her outline as a blunt, simple color. I imagine that she is quite proud of herself. Not in a braggy, vain way, but rather, in a strong and tenacious way. She doesn’t seem like the type that needs to be told she’s splendid, but would give gratitude to anyone who does say such. Having the outline also her eyes shows the things that put her together is what makes her her and she knows it.
