Description
Mimikyu are small Ghost/Fairy Pokemon that are native to Alola. They’re a rare species that possesses an ability, possibly psychic in nature, that taps into the fear centre of the brain causing anything that looks directly at it to instantly feel dread so intense, it can cause hallucinations and panic. It eventually wears off but strangely this only happens when looking at a particular area of their exposed body, though it is still widely unknown as to what that is as nobody has yet been able to see it. People have even tried to film it but the effect is the same and no one can quite understand why?
They were widely feared and shunned, that was until the early 2000’s when a surfing festival known as ‘Puka Day’ started. After a local legend known as ‘Puka’, a surfing Pikachu that possessed blue eyes, passed away. In honour of Puka the islanders created the festival to gather together, surf, eat and most importantly, sell Pikachu merchandise to tourists. As an unfortunate side effect, hundreds of Pikachu toys and plushies are discarded each year.
Then, in a strange turn of events, Mimikyu began appearing wearing these crude, handmade Pikachu costumes, created from the lost and discarded plushies. Before this, the Alolan people thought Mimikyu were evil spirits and until then, hadn’t even realised they were Pokemon. The disguise seemed to shield their abilities and for the first time allowed people to get up close to these strange little creatures. After this a number of people across the island began to adopt the little creatures into their home and found they really craved companionship and affection. It’s now thought they were simply lonely and wanted to be loved. It has been proposed that Mimikyu possibly has one of the highest IQ’s ever seen in a Ghost type Pokemon. Its ability to not only understand the concept that people celebrated Pikachu, but to use that as a way to join in was unheard of. Not to mention the clear understanding of craft and tools used to create the costumes in the first place is astounding.
