Overall
Vision
Originality
Technique
Impact
I was going to just comment on all the things i love about this, but I think I'll do a critique for you and also point out things that could be better, but just to be clear. I really love this piece c:
so here we gooo...
Vision, Does the artwork present or reflect a point of view, theme or idea?
let's see...the point of view is of course, in Koha's and by the expression she gives she seems to feel...hmm...hopeless? I guess and possibly a little annoyed. Her posture suggests she feels some type of sadness. Of course, it's also raining which also adds to her negative emotions, so yea. You did a good job portraying "vision" in your artwork by making the viewers understand the feelings of Koha and her situation, so that gets 5 stars.
Originality, is the artwork fresh or new in its style, execution or approach? Is it something you havenβt seen before in its particular genre? Does it surprise you?
well, I haven't actually looked at a lot of your work, but based on the portrait you did of Koha I can see a defiant style change and that you tried something new with this. As for it being "fresh" I would say it is, you've got a mixture of techniques in here, you've got some very lovely shading on the face and the spikes along her back and then as you move down her legs, it looks all run together as if the rain is starting to smudge her markings, which is kind of cool. As for something I haven't seen, there's several people who draw wolves in the rain and sometimes they're happy and sometimes they're sad, but I haven't really seen anything done in this particular style, so it is very different and I really like it. I'll give you 4 stars for Originality.
Technique, Was the artwork skillfully created? Does the artist exhibit advanced knowledge of the medium and/or bring special focus to the craft of the medium used.
There is defiantly skill here, you clearly knew what you were doing and if you didn't well, it sure looks like it lol you did an amazing job with the rain effects and everything looks great. The only thing I have a problem with is that grass, it looks too together. Especially since you have some blades sticking up around her paws, I feel like it would have been better if you had the odd few blades through out the grass like around the tree and what not. I also find that branch next to her nose to be very distracting from the composition, it's really well done, but I think it shouldn't be there. If you wanted to keep it I'd suggest having it either lower or higher than her head so that it doesn't bring so much attention to it. I'll give you 4 stars for this too
Impact, Does the artwork resonate with you or evoke strong emotions? Does it make you think? Does it blow your mind?
This is getting 5 stars lol I'll tell you why, it does evoke emotions, it makes you feel what Koha feels and makes you just want to hug her. She looks almost pathetic with her tails hung like that and her fur soaked with water, it just makes you want to snuggle her by the fire lol even while Koha looks so depressive in the rain, it's a really beautiful image. You did an amazing job with all the little details, it's really amazing. You're anatomy is also good to. This is a really wonderful piece c: but yes, this piece brings out emotions and it does make you think of how she feels.
anyway, that's it lol other than the grass, I don't really have anything else to say about this xD although, I also noticed that her one front leg appears a little thing...but it is also behind the other leg, so I could be wrong on that, but it sort of looks like there's some grass peaking in between both legs? it would likely be better if they were just fully touching. Anywho, that's it c: you should be proud of this, it's very well done e.deviantart.net/emoticons/c/c⦠" width="20" height="20" alt="" title="Clap"/>

Ohmygoshthankyousomuch ;u;
I haven't gotten a proper critique on my work for such a freakishly long time!
Just... Thank you... This will help me so much... I'm so happy it actually 'works' to bring out the fact she does feel hopeless at times. I'm pretty proud that I managed to actually show someone else the emotion in this, because that's what I was aiming for.
Gaaahh, thank you so much! -hug-
It means a lot to me. :3

Too bad you don't have the mental capacity to conjure up an insult that would offend me. I've seen pictures of you and it looks like you don't have any physical strength to hurt me either, Shortie. If you have performance issues when it comes to insulting people, I can always pretend. Acting is just one of my many skills, and I figure I should indulge people who are not fortunate enough to be as gifted as me.

I must say, good on you, sir. Does going online and insulting people give you pride? Well then, I suppose you must feel quite accomplished since you must have nothing better to do other than pick arguments on deviantART. Give yourself a good slap on the back. In fact, let me do it for you, darling. A nice, hard, slap on the back.

Insulting people does not give me pride. I am simply attempting to find a person I can have intelligent debates with later. To do that, I question a person and observe how they respond. After all, a person is most passionate when defending something important to them (such as their artistic skill). I was hoping that you would be someone I could have higher level discussions with about politics, religion, and other highly debated topics. I see now from your perfectly generic responses that I was sorely mistaken. I apologize for any discomfort I have caused you. Luckily for you, you do have some artistic skill that could be continued to improve upon.

Good point. May our debates be full of passion, sound logic, and a higher thought level.

I really love the style you've put this piece in, the soft painted look to it is perfect for the scene. The fact that the face is sharper and clearer than the rest of the piece really draws the eye to it and gives a nice effect.
The only things that stick out as things that could be improved are the tree in the background and the eyes of Koha. Yes, the tree is a background object and does not need to be absolutely perfect... But the way you've painted it is so that the cracks and crevices are shaded very, very widely and deeply, whereas it's not shaded on a larger scale as if light is falling on it. It doesn't have to be a very contrast-y addition; just a subtle larger scale shading effect would improve it drastically. As for Koha's eyes, they're the right size and in the right place, but I see here a common mistake in realism. They seem just a little bit... dead, emotionless. Looking at my own dog, he can convey emotions as clearly as a human face just with his eyes. I'm not sure how you could fix this problem but, there just doesn't seem to be enough emotion in her eyes, considering it's a very feisty character who's just gone on an emotional roller coaster.
But all things aside, I love the composition of the piece and how you've drawn the rain, both just falling and dripping off of Koha. It just has a very soft feel that creates the perfect atmosphere for the piece. I really love this character and this painting of her, both are truly amazing things.

Thank you, bro!
And yes, I was s excited to draw her eyes and make them all cool and stuff and then...
My file was too small.
The most I could do was add shine. I ish a dumbo for using sch a small resolution and file size.
Note to self: BIGGER FILE SIZES FOR MORE DETAILS YOU TWIT
Yeah, my actual idea was to make her eyes the best, maybe even add a little lightning in them but alas I could not do so... Because making the file bigger would result in a blurry image.
RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGEEEEEEE
In all honesty, I had no clue what I was doing when I started to draw the rain dripping off of her. Never done it before in my life. XD Couldn't even find any tutorials....
But I used logic and it seemed to work out decently...
Thank you brooooo!! -hug-

....And that's why I always use gigantic files. I always have the widest edge at least 4000 pixels, because that's all my computer can handle. And if I had an alienware computer I'd probably do it at 8000 pixels. Seriously, you can pack in so much detail and you don't have to paint as well as you normally would when you have giant files, because you just size them down and it looks fabulous. USE BG FILES. LIKE THIS GUY, HERE: *DarkSilverflame
SERIOUSLY THIS DUDE IS A FABULOUSLY REALISTIC PAINTER AND ALL HE DOES IS HAVE HUGE FILES. D:
So yesh, always start big. It is the solution to many many problems.
I have never tried rain dripping before ever, though I suppose I'll have to figure it out eventually... Gah. I'll just look at Pulsie's art to help me figure it out. xD
And as always, you're wellllcooooommmeeee~! :spazhug:
