Gaster was the leader of the group that Asgore sent to live nearer to the human city soon after the war ended and the monsters won. However, due to realizing how much ‘stronger’ the monsters settled near the human city were, Gaster announced to Asgore that his ‘group’ was independent from Asgore’s, and proceeded to announce himself head scientist. He called two people important to him to become the king and queen, which they would become for some time. One day, the Incident happened, and Gaster was thrust into power as the sole king.
Due to his role as the king, and not wanting to leave his role as scientist behind, Gaster completely ignored his younger siblings and instead entrusted them to another monster to raise until they were older. When his siblings were old enough to come back, Gaster began searching for ways to ‘make them useful’. Sans would become Gaster’s chosen heir. Papyrus would later be chosen as head of the Defense. However, Gaster’s interest in containing the humans was frequently battled about by both his brothers, who felt that Gaster’s hatred of humans was unfounded. Gaster and his siblings would have a rocky road ahead of them.
