(Your link to Change.org doesn't work, please update it. It would get a vote from me.)
We are destroying many species every year, if not every month, every week, every day. Animals, plants, and probably things to make medicine against the poisons and new sicknesses we create.
The other day, I learned that even newly discovered species are already suffering from our global influence. For example, they found an amphipod in the deep seas. Had it looked at under the microscope, and discovered; there is already plastic in its body. They named it "Eurythenes plasticus".
I don't believe we can stop the thoughtless, selfish, compassionless greed of our species anymore. We're way past the point of no return. Every single thing which some of us environmentalists do to help will only slow things down, but not stop it completely.
I mean, how is me recycling my stuff gonna make a bigger difference than the literally islands of garbage floating in the ocean right now? How is me planting trees recovering what amounts of forests are lost to the industries every day?
My own trees will be lost to industries themselves eventually. If they're not destroyed first by the more frequent violent storms (in Ferbuary we had weekly storms which did serious forest damage), warm winters (which don't kill off bugs which will harm trees) and other natural disasters we're experiencing more and more lately since few decades. Guess how those became to be.

Hm, this is odd, it just says "We couldn't find the page you were looking for." when I click it. But I just saw your post on FA, and when I clicked there, it worked. So my vote is given. c: Maybe it's a site issue or something.
Shiiit, yeah, it's all about popular animals. I know that WWF and others have to show cute animals when they actually need the money for all the animals and plants. For example, you can be sure that whenever you see a "Save the insects!" poster somewhere, there will be butterflies and lady bugs and shit. But you don't see creatures like an ugly woodlouse, even though they're essential garbagemen which clean up the rotten deceased, and create biomass for plants to grow big and strong. Just saying everyone deserves respect, not only the pretty animals. Why are we teaching people only to care about visually appealing animals? Why can't we see beyond their look and see their actual roles and potential? This is also part of what inspired me to use "uncommon" animals for my anthros. I wanna try and open the eyes of the tunnel-visioned people.
By the way, I also noticed how the waste of paper, and the energy to produce and deliver them (this counts for recycled ones too) is a problem even inside ecology groups. The other day, I asked WWF (respectfully) why they don't do e-mails/electronic transfer instead of paper mail in general, in order to save trees/energy/CO2 and stuff. They explained to me that, since their main goal is to get as much donation money as possible to realize projects, they are simply forced to use the kind of marketing that has worked better than e-mails so far: which is paper mail, if recycled paper. If you want e-mails, you can tell them, and then they do it. But it's not their default method, sadly.
So basically, people in general react to the wasteful methods more often than they do to environmentally friendlier methods. And that's why even the best ecology groups can't work to their full potential. It's fucked up and twisted.
It's like you want to teach the world a meaningful, smart language, but the world wants you to speak your language in THEIR primitive ooga-ooga me-hit-stone-with-stick language. So nothing really changes on the big picture.
"I would like to purchase this book against plastic waste, please wrap it up in plastic for protection even if cardboard protection is available too."

I don't comment all that often, but this piece and its description has really moved me. I think the symbolism, lighting, detailing, everything evokes such a specific emotion, a sort of horrible dread laced with urgency and deep sadness, and I aspire to be able to reflect such things in my work, someday.
This piece is powerful and the message behind it is even more-so, I think we're lucky to have people like you in the world using their talents to fight the good fight. You've always been an artistic inspiration to me, but with works like this I can't help but feel an extra level of respect for you. I hope more people will see warning signs like this and smarten-up before it's too late. Sincerely, thank you!
Oh, by the way, I'd like to sign the petition you've listed but the link appears to be broken for me, would it be possible to send another? (:

Of course! <3 It's wonderful hearing more about your interest in these types of works, I have a deep appreciation for the imagination that goes into stuff like this. I know it's likely no simple question to answer, but I'd love to know, how'd you come up with this piece?
The first link sends me to a "HTTP error 401" page, the second one DID take me to the front page of Change with a banner that states the URL isn't working, but it seems that now that I try it a second time it's also getting the 401 message? Very strange! I did search "gillnets" and sign the open petitions that were there, though, so hopefully I got yours!
