Description
According to 1 Enoch, Azazel was one of the chief Grigori, a group of fallen angels who married women. Enoch portrays Azazel as responsible for teaching people to make weapons and cosmetics, for which he was cast out of heaven.All but the man ( bought from dreamstime, partly painted and manipulated) and the rocks are stock from SXC. The halo has his name, Azazel, written in enochian script.

That is an interesting interpretation of Azrael, because I always heard he was a arch angel, and was responsible for judging people before they entered heaven. He is often thought of as the angel who governs death. And to my knowledge, he has never fallen from heaven. There is a Wikipedia article here: [link] But he has been portrayed as an evil angel because of his association with death, and having a hand at leading souls to heaven, and managing the matters of death. So, there have been many associations with him and misinterpretations, but I think Azrael is actually a good angel and loved by heaven because if he wasn't he wouldn't be an arch angel with such an important job assigned to him. That's just my personal thought. I think they pulled the other interpretations from ideas about Hades and Hephaestus from Greek mythology. I think that had to do with not properly understanding the workings of the afterlife and speculation, not that anyone has an idea of what things are like when we die these days either, but ancient myths were often reinterpreted into different cultures and ended up in their own religious traditions as skewed versions of the originals. This website: [link] Also says that Azrael might have actually been a human priest named Ezra who had his origins mixed up and got turned into an angel later, but personally I think Azrael is an archangel an governs over death, do to some other historical records I have read, and I don't think he ever fell. Still, it is an interesting interpretation and I love your portal of Azrael in art. It is just how I would picture him being. Keep up the good work.

Few people actually know about Azazel on Christian Mythology. It's all about Lucifer, Lilith and Eve. I'm glad to see something diferent and so Well done.

I'm going to be doing more fallen angels I just have been in a funk with it. A few are half done. I don't think people realize how many fallen angels there are.

I've been reading about them too. I am going to paint both fallen and not, just have been focused on the fallen lately and then kind of lost my ....muse? My friends don't seem to mind the male "pin up" idea I got going on tho
