Description "In the steady gaze of the horse shines the eloquence that speaks of love, loyalty, strength and courage. It is the window that reveals to us how willing is his spirit, how generous his heart." -- L. McGuire

"If you have seen nothing but the beauty of their markings and limbs, their true beauty is hidden from you." -- Al-Mutanabbi

There are many reasons I love horses. One of them is their singular ability to perceive, memorize, and willingly respond to the slightest of cues from us humans. They learn to speak our language so masterfully in their urge to connect with us. They are wonderfully sensitive. Their sensitivity should be cherished, and respected. We all should attempt to learn more of them and their nature, and meet them half-way in our endeavor to bridge the language gap between our species. In this way we can truly enjoy the company of these incredible beings-- as two creatures reaching out to touch the other, with mutual respect and understanding.

The detail in this is just amazing. the detail in the eye alone makes this piece stand out. I love how this flows forward, keeping the up close and personal perspective. the emotion you've kept in this is amazing. it has an almost 'what do yu think you are doing' feeling to it. the only negative i see is that the detail in the fur is not up to par with that of the eye and eye lid. if more detail was added and perhaps more shadow and light as well, this peice would be just astounding. Over all a wonderful illistration of a difficult perspective!

Totally agree with you about the detail in the fur. I made a bad decision finishing the eye first, because once the eye ('the important part') was done, I rushed through the fur ('the silly non-important stuff') so I could call it done and post it. xD I have a bad habit of getting impatient toward the end of drawings like that.

Thank you very much for the wonderful critique! I really appreciate the time you took to give me feedback-- thank you so much.

Your description really touches me. I've been trying to display what you've said for several years now; how we need to meet them in the middle, and you've stated it perfectly! As for the drawing, magnificent as usual

....not having spent a whole lot of time around horses, I can't really confirm what you've said here; but everything that you've written , I feel, also applies to dogs. If you raise a dog from a puppy you will never have a more devoted and loving companion in your life---that dog will do just about anything for you and is always SO glad to have your attention and affection. So I think the way you feel about horses, Kate, is the way I fell about dogs....

Dogs are wonderful too. They really genuinely love their people so much, it is so touching. Nothing makes them happier than making us happy.

Thank you very much. The quote is one of my absolute favorites-- I first read it when I was very young, and it has stuck with me through the years.
