Yes it did! The games are not the same anymore with Desmond gone...
I personally think that they killed the franchise with his death tbh

He was badass in AC3. But I kind liked the ending. It was tragic in a good way. But maybe he survives? Maybe Clay saves him? ec.

I think the ending didn't really give us closure on all Modern Assassins characters and that's why I didn't like it. Still, I had this kind of weird feeling from the very beginning that poor Des was going to die x(

There are many theories, about "Desmond lives" For example, Clay in Brotherhood says: "Find Eve. Sun...you son". Does Des find Eve? Have a son? I don't think so.
And about rest of the modern assassins...we will see them in next trilogy.

I hope so, but don't you think that them leaving Desmond without even saying proper goodbyes was a little bit weird? Desmond tells them to go and they just go, without saying much. I found it pretty sad. I also heard that there's something about Eve in the ending of Assassin's Creed: Liberation, but I haven't played it yet, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see...
