For what it's wprth, I'd endorse your view that the title doesn't really apply to this piece. In classical mythology, a dryad is the spirit of a tree, and beyond the dress being emerald green, there's nothing about the costume or model which suggests that to me.
Your alternate description of the scenario depicted is much more how I'd see it too.

The moment you lay eyes on this picture, what comes to mind is Dante Gabriel Rossetti and his favourite model, the one and only Jane Morris. That is the waves of the dress, the waves of the hair ... I´ve never been a fan of Jane´s though, but this dryad/woman/model I do favour. I like the composition of the dress in respect of what you can see of it, and I find it nice for once to see something that doesn´t seem to be stolen out of Marie Antoinette´s wardrobe. Just the right amount of skin to be seen if you want to look like you are belonging to the end of the 19th century. What I´m not so sure of, is the title. You being a tree spirit, I would say that here are not enough symbols, linking you to the trees.
However, that´s just my thoughts regarding the title. The photo, then. I like the facial expression ( what´s on her mind ? ) and I like the positioning of the hands, it´s not an "Oh, I´m scared" gesture, more of a semi-religious "ey, stop, stop - now listen to Mother Nature - she´s calling your name" kinda thing. The background - it´s almost the same blur everywhere, and I for one would have liked to see the background in a more fading aspect. The green dots in the front are essential, makes you believe you are more like spying on her, hiding behind all the green. The temperature of the colours in this photo is what concerns me most. Usually your pictures are not done in this - I could almost say - cold, or chilly, way. Again, as I don´t know what you would like me to think regarding the situation of this dryad, it´s hard to say whether or not the temperatures used, are right or wrong.
I do like this very much, as well as a lot of other pictures here at La Esmeralda.

I love Alex-Blyg's work which led me to your site. You are both gorgeous and expressive, and my girlfriend loves this dress. Any idea where you got it?

Thanks, do you mind if I show the photos to some friends of mine who are good with a needle, and see if they can make something similar?
