Description About the rule of thirds

The Fibonacci Spiral

Perspective tutorial

Assignment
You must complete a sketch following these guidelines, and post all the steps in one deviation, so the progression in the work is visible. You have to make three previous thumbnails (as explained in Step 1) and three colour tests; all of them must be shown. Of course, you're welcome if you want to try more, but only three are required Subject is completely free, so you can go wild <3
Due date: none! you can submit the exercise whenever you want. Relax and take your time to make your best effort ^^

(FINALLYYY---- I'm very sorry for the long delay i__i I was flooded with work! )

As I said above, feel free to ask any questions on the comments below, and I'll make my best to answer you

Cheers, love and penguins!

Don't worry, the background is not necessary
But remember that you have to follow all the steps the same, being careful about the composition and the anatomy

I tried doing this class again (or rather continuing with it) but I still find it hard XDDDD
It's probably because I'm not used to resketching things
I'm still trying to figure out how I can make that perspective shown the best way. Like those white boxes you made? How did you do that??
Also boxing things is not something I can really work with, for I get confused how the shape will be XDDD Adding up that I totally suck at perspective in general... well unless it's buildings XD

LadyChestnut In reply to Arisa-tan [2010-03-19 20:30:19 +0000 UTC]

Well, I hope you keep it up! Hard work will always pay off
For the perspective: if you find hard to make the boxes, always think of this: every form in reality can be simplified to a cube, a sphere, a cylinder, a cone, or a combination of these. Really! You just have to think about the figure in its core forms. (I simplified it very very much for the perspective setting tho- Just to see where it was going)
And for the setting of the perspective, I suggest you to download `adonihs 's brushes here: [link] If I'm not mistaken, there's a special brush that's really helpful when setting vanishing points (looks like a point with lots of lines irradiating from it). If you set the VP with that, you just have to follow those lines in order to make the boxes.Do you see,in the drawing? All the lines that are not vertical nor horizontal are receeding to a vanishing point (there are two, one apart for the truck).
I hope this was helpful, and sorry for the possible grammar mistakes

Arisa-tan In reply to LadyChestnut [2010-03-20 11:17:24 +0000 UTC]

Haha sorry, that was not really my question
I meant like how to actually make those squares, like with what tool, so they'll be actual squares/rectangles.
In photoshop for example, I get a filled square, which really isn't what I need
so not really how to place an object in a square, but how to get that square

LadyChestnut In reply to Arisa-tan [2010-03-22 03:47:04 +0000 UTC]

Oh, whoops XDDD
Since I'm using Phososhop, I use the line tool ("u" shortcut). And I don't bother very much to make the squares perfect...Maybe I should, but I'm a lazy artist Oh, and a hint! to make the lines (or the brush,or everything that has to run into the canvas) go totally vertical or totally horizontal, press the shift key while painting or creating the figure. Try it with the brush and you'll se what I mean

-raises hand-
I have a question... I did three thumb sketch things in pen in my sketchbook, you know for ideas.
So from there I pick one... but of course it needs to be a lot bigger and digital. Do I first make another sketch and then do composition/perspective... or is that the same step??
(The thumbs are actual thumbs and too small to work with further...)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LadyChestnut In reply to Arisa-tan [2010-01-19 03:17:05 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm...
Scan the thumbs and, if you're more comfortable with it, re-make the sketch while checking the perspective. But don't stress it too much, since the focus on concrete shapes belongs to step three. Remember though, you must show the three un-retouched thumbnails in the assignment!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Arisa-tan In reply to LadyChestnut [2010-01-20 08:25:22 +0000 UTC]

Okay... so I can also just check the perspective and then make a new sketch based on that where I work more on the concrete shapes?
(I think I read your comment like 10 times or something... trying to find the best way to do it, based on what you said )

LadyChestnut In reply to Arisa-tan [2010-01-20 09:06:08 +0000 UTC]

...I'm sorry if I did not explain myself very well xD I'l try better-
First is first: do you want to do the assignment in traditional (scanning every step), or in digital? ...Or a bit of both?
But you must know, all procedures will be right as long as you show all the steps followed in the assignment, as well as the three thumbnails and colour tests.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Arisa-tan In reply to LadyChestnut [2010-01-20 10:53:46 +0000 UTC]

haha no I did get what you said... just... how to interpret it... you know?
I'm doing it digital... I just had this idea in the train and made 3 concept sketches traditional, also because I sketch better traditional and do the rest better digital
I will make sure to post all steps

I was about to start a sketch when I saw this XD; Rather oddly timed.
But I have a problem.....I only draw with pencils not computer Any advice?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LadyChestnut In reply to Ray-Avalon [2010-01-19 02:45:19 +0000 UTC]

If you draw with pencils you can scan the pic on every step Or if you cannot access a scanner, I guess a good photo will do. Remember, all the steps must be shown, as well as the thumbnails and colour tests!
Good luck (and sorry for the delay at answering...)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LadyChestnut In reply to doodler89 [2010-01-13 20:02:24 +0000 UTC]

Of course, you can make it traditionally if you want The steps are the same!

(for the colour tests, you can trace the drawing three times or make print copies form it)

I love this class! I just want to say that its exactly what I need! Im gonna complete it but dont know when since Im kind of busy right now...
about the three color versions... I can only do traditional art so it will probably take a while for me to finish this, but its a great idea I havent thought of before...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LadyChestnut In reply to Berumi [2010-01-13 20:07:23 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I'm really glad it helped you
If you're working traditinally, for the colour versions you can trace the pic three times or make print copies from it (in the definitive pic tho, you shouldn't use any print copy, but a handdrawn lineart- it's more rich). It's a bit more difficult, but traditional mediums are worth the time
Don't worry, there's no time limit Just don't forget to have fun in the process!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Berumi In reply to LadyChestnut [2010-01-19 07:09:47 +0000 UTC]

okay Im gonna try my best! I personally dont like tracing pictures just for the reason that the original line art is always much better and more lively...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LadyChestnut In reply to Berumi [2010-01-19 07:25:32 +0000 UTC]

Yes, usually the traced copies are more poor... That's why you should try the colour tests on traced copies, and then apply the good colour scheme to the original!
(but now that I think so, if you want to finish the pic completely you may want to wait for the colouring until the lineart is fully finished... Mm, do as you think it's good, as long as you show three colour tests, ok? )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Berumi In reply to LadyChestnut [2010-01-31 07:54:05 +0000 UTC]
