Description Mandelbulb3Dv1.9

Just a spin with the new v1.9 release of MB3D.....Skins are cool and there is the MutaGen function, some Nav changes but Fundtionality remains the same that's a good thing
This was based on Master of Ankh's Throne of ElohimΒ len1.deviantart.com/art/Throne…
I used the MutaGen function in v1.9 for this Variation

Awesome fractal haven't tried the MutaGen function, don't even know what the function of it is

Be careful with it, it will lock up the program...especially if using several different Formulas, doesn't work as well as the MutaGen in J-Wildfire

Haven't noticed the History problem but then I haven't needed to depend on it yet either, this image was 3200 by 1800 original no problem saving image or M3i or M3p but I have redone the IniDirs to point at everything from the MB3D189 version Β for params, formulas, lights everything and always save images to a seperate Folder not in MB3D. The Flicker in the Nav is a major pain in the ass though and I noticed I sometimes need to Load/open the program a couple times before everything seems loaded Kosher, there is definitely some disconcerting Squirrels running around in v1.9 that makes it untrustworthy. Until there is some debugging and serious functionality changes in any new version v1.8.9 will be my Standard too it works perfect so why take any chances with v1.9.

To turn off flickering, turn themes off (should be little smoother than before). The flickering is now under investigation, seems to be a Windows-related problem.
To increase stability, do not use the MutaGen. It may pick formula-combinations which crash the program (when you pick them manually, the same will occur, so this is not a new behaviour, but it is more likely to occur).Β
After turning those off, and when you are not want to use/create the JIT-formulas, then there is probably nothing of new "serious functionality" left, and indeed, you can ignore this version

I get the same Flicker problem with later versions of Incendia too only worse, it seems the flicker goes away after a bit of time but comes back sporadically it doesn't make the Nav unusable just a pain and I am running Windows 7pro/sp1 64bit, I like the skins though. I probably won't use the MutaGen much I like manual exploring of Variations I spend more time doing hat than anything else other than setting Lights, VL, Fog and like that. What I really would like to see is maybe a couple more Lights, dual VL sources, VL + Iteration Fog simultaneous, Reflections on d.IFS only like there is for Transparency but I ain't complaining MB3D is my favorite program and it's Free you can't complain about that ever.Β

thargor6 In reply to Len1 [2015-12-27 23:20:24 +0000 UTC]

I see, the problem with those things you wish is the fact, that the legacy-code of MB3D is build the way that it hardly can be expanded. For example, in theory, extending the number of lights from 6 to 8 should be no big deal in software development, normally it is even too trivial to speak about at all. But, in the case of MB3D, all stuff is hardcoded to the most extreme extent. So, if you want to increase the number of lights, you start with searching the whole source-code for important usages of the number "5", because the current high range of lightsources is 5 (0...5). Of course, you can not just replace all occurences of 5, because... also the number of formulas is restricted to 6, which is hardcoded the same way.Β
Similar case with dIFS, they are incompatible to all other fractals, but are using the same internal structures, but abusing some of the informations.Β
So, bigger changes of internal stuff need a complete rewrite of substantial parts, otherwise it will be impossible to make them stable at all.Β But, such will take time.

Believe me I do understand, being a 32 bit program in the time of 64 bit doesn't help either and like I said I'm not complaining, MB3D even with it's limitations is still so versitile there is no danger of running out of things to do with it.
