I have done a series of dragon art cards in preparation for the Rustycon convention art show in January 2014. The theme of which is dragons. The GOH is Todd McCaffery co-author of the "Dragon Riders of Pern" book series.

The trick of getting classic looking dragons in the air is to have a world in which the gravity is low and the air pressure is high. We have learned from the fate of Mars, that this planet did not have a large enough metal core to sustain dynamic internal heating and a magnetic field strong enough to prevent the atmosphere from being stripped away by the solar wind. It is possible for a planet as small as Mercury to retain an O2 atmosphere if it has a substantial not nickel-iron core. The fictional world depicted is such a planet in orbit around a K-type star. We are seeing the polar bear equivalent of dragons flying above its northern polar cap. Its two small moons are visible in the background. Each is about the size of the dwarf planet Ceres.

THANX. I try to keep these images simple. The original art card is only 2.5" x 3.5" in size so every brush stroke shows up on the screen.
