thanks! i like working with it, although i sometimes borrow my boyfriend's intuos4 and it's noticably much better. it's more sensitive and responsive. so i'm considering getting a new tablet soon.

That is awesome to know! I found an Ituos3 for a good price (start uni in October, I am poor V_V') I was using a Tablet Laptop but it busted. Getting used to not actually having my image on the tablet is going to take some time though XD

cool, i guess what i was wondering is if you had some explanation of how you "see" light... or maybe you use photo references to map your light realistically. i ask because you often have complex shadows and colored light reflecting in complex ways and i thought you might be able to share a secret about your keen observational abilities.

ah, well... i sometimes use reference, but that's indicated in the descriptions of the images i post. most of the time i don't.. i just sort of wing it and see what i like! it did help that i did a lot of cel shading a few years back, like this [link] just using solid blocks of color to shade. now, i combine softer shadows with harder blocks which helps define the lighting in my images.

i'll try to take it in steps and work with more cel shading, i can see how that would build a better fundamental understanding of lighting. i really appreciate you taking the time for the advice, i know you must be swamped on here.
