I've been on a random Silent Hill kick lately and it inspired me to revisit this old artwork: sta.sh/09or8ormgam
Silent Hill 3 is one of my all-time favorite video games and I think it has aged extraordinarily well. Masahiro Ito did an amazing job with the art direction, and the character models are exceptionally rendered for a PS2-era game. The soundtrack and ambience is some of Akira Yamaoka's finest work. Heather is my favorite Silent Hill protagonist. She's cute, badass, and hilariously snarky, setting her apart from the other three original Team Silent protagonists. (Although, Henry and his constant 'what the hell' moments will always have a special place in my heart)
The background was done in Procreate. Everything else was done in Paint Tool SAI.

Can I just say I'm thrilled to see fresh Silent Hill artwork on here!!!Β A game apart from any others, it really set a tone with its gritty, dirty atmosphere, the monsters, and the mysterious cult magic of Silent Hill.Β These games and the characters has fascinated me, and really brought some disturbing ideas to life on the video game stage.Β Heather is of the few females who kick@$$.Β I love the carousel scene, and dark Heather.
Silent Hill 2 has a very special place in my heart (I think all SH fans can agree there is just something about 2!).Β Also Homecoming (I love Alex, and I feel they really had so much potential for his story line!).Β Thanks for bringing some beautiful grit back!Β The golden light on Heather is a great contrast!

Thank you so much for commenting!! Silent Hill 3 had the best overall design in my opinion, the environment is just. so. freaking. creepy. Especially the nightmare hospital. So dark, bloody disgusting, and downright terrifying. Team Silent did a phenomenal job making the player feel all alone and maybe a little crazy.
Totally agreed! SH2 seems to be the fan favorite and for good reason, it's a classic for sure. It's a beautiful and melancholy game that aged with grace!

silent hill easily got me through school years, the symbolism in the designs through most of the series has kept me drawn in for the longest time, even to a point the most western releases kept me going.. being kinda funny for a atmospheric survival horror type game franchise
all that aside this is an amazing piece that really captures a bleak feel that Heather undoubtedly mires in from the midpoint, the rust and rot in the background are very well executed, Heather herself is beautifully presented looking suitably lost in the otherworld
i'm about ready to jump back into SH3 now <3

IIRC a guy wrote a novel-length essay just to talk about the symbolism and story in Silent Hill 2. Really love how much is up for interpretation- the Team Silent games are really something special.
