I love the blur effect and how his gold collar shines brightly ^^ Great work!

Thank you very much! I was trying not to render everything and retain that soft focus all the way to the end :3

I don't know the show (?) but I really like the ephemeral quality of the painting! It's beautifulΒ

Thank you very much! I was aiming to go for a bit softer kind of thing here since I disliked the harsh look of the stuff I've been making lately.
And Critical Role is basically just a bunch of professional voice actors playing DnD. It's very fun, really. And also nice to listen to while drawing :3 If it's somethign that you're into, you can find all of the episodes here Β (also the "intro " is a neat place to start since it's kinda short and all)

Thanks for the link!
I usually find myself with the opposite problem, my digital work ends up too soft-edged and blurry for me. I think this is a nice way to embrace that look!

Ahh yeah, it's easy to go too far in soft edges, especially in digital art. Though, I really like the stuff thatΒ Piotr JabΕoΕski Β and Cynthia Sheppard do with soft and implied edges! Seriously, that kind of thing is amazing! Though, I'm probably biased on the matter since I favor more painterly styles.

Wow, so much detail! I really admire painters that can do backgrounds too, it always seems beyond me

I find it easier to do them when I don't think of them as 'backgrounds' but rather just another part of the painting that has blobs of color on it. That helps me tackle them and make them and the rest of the thing one unified piece.

Oh, good advice! Whenever I think of backgrounds I think of high school perspective class drawing with rulers and I cringe a littleΒ

Oh gosh, I hate that approach to backgrounds SO MUCH. It's so sterile and mathematical. I only use the perspective grids and all when refining to make sure everything aligns properly. I rarely use it to actually build a piece. But then again, I have a lot of experience in drawing things in perspective so I can often just eyeball everything. I suppose doing studies of buildings and streets in perspective is good practice.
