Description
Here I lie in the bed of flowers, in the prime of my time and surrounded by beauty yet you are not with me.
Here I lie in the bed of flowers, protecting what is yours so fragile, so delicate.
Here I lie, alone.
Here I lie, will you join me?
This illustration has been spooking in my head for way too long but as it is with plans they end up going in a totally different direction. I actually wanted to have a whole field of flowers but that simply wasn't looking good to me. So I started looking through my old sketches, references and stuff. And lo' and behold! I found old photocopies for my painting ceramics classes. I never was able to finish that course thanks to a certain person in my life ruining my life at that point but hey!
I love these kind of flowers and I used plenty of references from "Cahide Keskiner" - she collected these in several books and this illustration prompted me to buy one only focused on flowers alone. If you like Turkish Motifs and their trends/styles her reference books are truly stunning.
For the background I used my lovely book on Islamic Design by Eric Broug. This one in particular is from the Kukeldash Madrasa, Bukhara, Uzbekistan. I have a profound love for geometric patterns like these and have tried my hand on the workbook by Mr. Broug.
I used mainly alcohol markers with some colored pencil and as a final touch I got gold acrylic paint buuut it just doesn't show much here. I have a small reel here that shows how it looks when it is subject to light and I love it
I tried to record me painting this for the most part and the video for that is here .
