Description In 1989-90 I was seeing a lady who was bipolar. She could be quite fun, personable and communicative one minute, and quite detached and quiet the next.
She lived in Mira Mesa, on the northern edge of San Diego. It was a new neighborhood of long, curving streets and cookie-cutter houses. Soon after we met, we took an evening stroll down Dancy Road. San Diego uses low-pressure sodium vapor street lights, which emit an almost pure-yellow light, and I remember the a feeling of suffocation walking through the eerie landscape.
I attempted to depict that scene here, but I still had a lot to learn about color and technique.
So here's to you, anonymous bipolar lady...take your lithium! 1993
