Her parents were quite well off, having inherited quite a bit of money from their ancestors and also being very savvy business people. They lived on a nice property, with all the extravagant things you might find in a rich household. However, even with all of this, Thea was raised to appreciate and be thankful for what she was given and to never take for granted what she had. She grew into a fine young woman, smart and kind. It was these facts that drew men to her. Well, not just those facts. She was also quite beautiful, and by the age of 20, she had suitors at her door day in and day out. They flocked to her, and at first she was flattered. She played with some, but she was never really interested in any of them. Until one day, when she bumped into a man named Dean. He was a few years older than she but still young enough. He apologized and took her to coffee, where Thea came to find that he was from out of town on business. She fell head over heels for him and soon the two were in a deep relationship. However, it was a distant relationship. He would come into town on business and spend his time off with her, getting to know one another.

Two years passed, and Dean proposed to Thea, who, of course, said yes. The wedding was scheduled and the days ticked down until the time came that the two were standing in front of the alter. It was a beautiful, love-filled ceremony that ended with the union between Mr. and Mrs. Dean Donovan. It wasn't long after until they began trying to start a small family. They were unsuccessful for a long time, but Thea kept her hopes up. However, her hopes were shattered when she answered his phone one day. Dean had left it sit out and usually he would answer it himself, but he was in the garage. Thinking nothing of it, Thea answered the phone, only to be met with another woman's voice. She spewed nasty insults at Thea, saying what a disgusting person she was for stealing her husband. Thea was appalled and hung up the phone. Immediately she went to tell Dean, and that's when he told her. His name wasn't actually Dean; in fact, he was hardly the man she thought he was. His real name was Bryant Reeves and he was already married. He tried to reassure Thea that he was trying to get a divorce from her, but Thea wouldn't listen. The next day, Bryant left for work, and Thea went out to find out who he really was. She came to find that he already had two children, and supposedly, his life was happy.

When he arrived home, she confronted him again. But this time, instead of reassuring her, he became angry. She told him she wanted a divorce, and that's when it happened. He overpowered her and abused her, using her against her will. This went on for another year before Thea's mother finally noticed a bruise when she came to visit. It was then that Thea broke down and told her mother everything. And the worst part was that Thea was now pregnant- not just with one child, but with twins. Thea's mother took action and demanded a restraining order against Bryant. However, the restraining order didn't do much, considering Thea and Bryant were still married. She tried to push for that too, but somehow, Bryant found a way to get to Thea. One last time, he came to her. She had been anticipating it since their separation and as soon as he entered the door, she had dialed 911. The police showed up just as he was finished with her and he was taken into custody. Finally under lock and key, he signed the divorce papers and Thea was free.

At her next hospital visit to check on the grown fetuses inside her, the doctor made a grave discovery. During Bryant's last "visit" he had beaten her to the point where the twins had died. Thea was devastated. She legally changed her surname back to Montgomery and moved in with her parents, unable to work or even leave the house for almost a year afterword. She had gone to therapy, and it helped a little. But still, she felt completely broken, utterly hopeless. Until, that is, she came across a picture of a horse for sale. She was covered in dirt and hadn't been groomed in well over a year. Thea stared at the pictures of her and felt as though she was looking into a mirror. Immediately, she called the number listed on the ad and arranged to come see the mare. The next morning, she got dressed and drove her fathers truck to the stable with a trailer hooked to the back. If anyone else had come to see the horse, they probably wouldn't have brought a trailer. But Thea knew in her heart that she would buy this horse.

The moment she stepped out of the car, she could see the dirty mare standing in the pasture, staring toward her. She wanted to walk up to her right away, but she knew that she needed to speak to the owners first. As they talked, she came to find that the horses name was Miss Mayberry and she was an accident foal. The owners had been trying to sell her since she was weaned, but no one wanted her. Thea felt an immense feeling of compassion and understanding wash over her as she watched the elegant horse gallop around the pasture. She turned to the owners and handed them a wad of cash. Surprised, but happy, they helped her load May into the trailer. It was a chore, but soon she was in with a little coaxing and some apples.

Once at the new stable that she would board her at, Thea spent all the time she could spare with May. By rehabilitating, training, and taking care of her, Thea began to heal as well. She even started going back to work! A couple years passed and Thea was almost back to her normal self. Still very wary of men, but content and peaceful now, Thea was striding across the fields on her beautiful steed.
