This image would benefit from a little white balancing. I was messing around in photoshop and it is possible to get his red shirt red, the green grass green and the birch tree white.
The orange tone is cool and for this picture it works, but in most pictures white balancing is essential so as to not lose color.

The tones are brilliant, did you play with them or is that how it captured?
I also love how you've placed the light through the tree to make it seem very symbolic like an "illumination". It adds a lot to the photograph.
Perhaps, if it were possible and I have NO IDEA how but if it were possible, you could have made the subject (your friend) in more darkness and just have the outline lit up so that it was more of a sillhouette type of thing but with the outline becoming more clear and detailed. Just a thought but all in all I honestly think this is an awesome photograph. Good job!
