Description Just a materials drill here.

Used different types of ink - let them dry overnight.
Then used the most feared color - yellow - and tested over.

So - inks from up to down -

Traditional China ink Black

Traditional China Ink ultra Black

Dr PH Martin's Bombay Black

Black Velvet waterproof India ink

Traditional Chinese Golden Black

---And - from left to right the types of yellow

Gouach yellow paint

Yarka yellow watercolor pan

Holbein tube watercolor

Daler Rowney Acrylic Ink

Chinese yellow watercolor

------

Overall I'm amazed at modern materials - most of the time any black I add it's instant soak as if dripped wet ink on the side until recent years.  Maybe I used the wrong ink.  The "Gel" ink I used for my pen did bleed at the slightest water.

The only real fail is at the bottom where the "Golden Black" which also doesn't seem to have ANY particles for the golden edge promised but readily bleeds.  Acrylic ink is good at lifting some black off - mind you even the "India Ink" which tends to be almost as waterproof as photocopier (plastic melted into the paper with a laser...) ink can lift a little if you scrub it with some other wet ink due to solvent.   That's why the yellow ink lifts especially acrylic ink - it's in a solvent that dries rapidly.

So - compared to years ago you can color your own black lines with traditional media though scanning it first is a good idea.

Master's Touch mixed media notebook from Hobby Lobby - good to do a LOT of china/brush/loose experiments rapidly - blue carpenter's tape at the side to keep the page stretched tight.
