In memory of my incredibly wonderful Grandfather. This was one of the 51 pipes in his collection, but more important than that, it reminds me of him. He was born in 1910, before cars (automobiles) were seen on the roads, and lived until 2003, long after man had walked on the moon. He always said how honoured he was to have seen these things!He took this photo of me at his camera club in 1971 and gave me a love of photography

The first 2 missing letters are obliterated by a repair, but the 2nd of those 2 could be a U or an O. I can see from about 2 o'clock to about 7 o'clock of an oval shape. The final 2 **s are worn away. The first is possibly an F and the 2nd (if there is one) - just judging by the centred text there may possibly be - is worn away.
I don't think there's writing on the bottom of it, but it's in my spare room with 2 sleeping grandsons so I'll have to look tomorrow. There is no writing on the other side.

Thanks so much Maria yes, Grandad and one Uncle and Aunt were the beautiful, treasured and loving influences in my life. To say they were deeply treasured is the understatement of the century!

Thank you so much Jessica, it means such a lot to me. Particularly as the other 50 pipes have been lost to the family. Half were stolen from one of my brothers and the other brother sold his Just as well Grandad had an odd number and allowed me to choose one before he split the rest between my brothers

Thank you dear Gigi, I treasure it so much - along with the incredibly beautiful little shoes that were his most treasured possession. The shoes belonged to his little brother who tragically drowned when he was 4. I really should upload a photo of those as well. They are made of leather and have carved wooden soles. They were lace up shoes but there are no laces long since.

It was terribly sad. He was playing in the front garden of a house they'd recently moved into and Granny didn't realise the latch was broken on the front gate. Jimmy went exploring. After searching for him for 3 days they found his little body in the nearby river. It makes your blood run cold doesn't it?

No, not in any way. I believe he went there maybe twice for holidays, but he had a large pipe collection so this one must have just come his way. He did love to smoke from it, but he used them all even if only once.
