Description Another concept for the GenMech campaign setting I'm working on.

VP-20M Nashorn

"Leave it to the Germans to build the biggest, baddest, ugliest MAV the world has ever seen."

That quote came from Ronald Grisswald, the CEO of North-American Heavy Industries Inc on Feb 12, 2120. On that day, the German Mechanized Engineering Division, a conglomerate of various German vehicle and arms manufacturers, debuted the behemoth known as the Nashorn.

Larger than any previously manufactured MAVs, the Nashorn towered over even the Russian Medvyed, previously the heaviest MAV in production. With it's thick armored shell and impressive standard loadout, the Nashorn could go toe to toe with just about any MAV and return without a scratch.

However, the Nashorn's greatest strength was its primary weapon, a massive Type 3 Coil Gun. With an almost unthinkable range, it could literally hit targets miles away, before they ever knew the Nashorn was there. Its magnetically accelerated projectiles hit at hypersonic speeds, literally tearing apart whatever they impacted. Nashorns were even known to hit targets through fortified structures on more than one occasion with the help of enhanced sensors and spotters.

During its service record, the Nashorn (Rhino) lived up to its name. A heavy MAV that could charge into battle, deal damage like it was nobody's business, and leave the enemy in smoking bits. In light of its reputation, a squad of Nashorn's was called a "charge" by allied forces, and the name stuck. Nobody wanted to see even one Nashorn against them, let alone an entire squad!

Variants of the Nashorn include the VP-20S StraßenkÀmpfer close combat variant, The VP-20J Jager assault variant, and the VP-20V Vogelhund anti-air variant.

Only a small crit here. First the feet look way to small for the size of that monster. Secondly, that big-ass gun could use a second grip? That tiny hand looks like it might sheer off after the first shot.

Yeah. I agree on both points. The feet do have retractable skids on them for firing though, and I'm planning a follow up model on the gun ~_^ The model here is the first production run version.

The common misconception is that the Type 3 Coil Gun was built for the Nashorn.

WRONG!

The Type 3 Coil Gun is so awesome, so powerful, they just strapped a mech to it!

Hah, you could say that.

Actually, the type 3 was probably designed for mounting on heavy tanks or battleships, but the Nashorn was so fragging big the designers said, "Why the hell not?" and converted the type 3 into a hand-held version... sort of...
