You've got to keep in mind the strengths and weaknesses of both mediums, and plan your work before you begin. I used the graphite for my lay in, since it's easier to get accurate, fine lines without it being too dark. I used charcoal for the modeling up to the lighter values, then used the graphite for the lighter shades.
