love the scene within the walls of the bedroom, between these two. It's kinda like a love story. But I don't like the UFOs outside so much, I think they take it away from reality too much.

And yet, playing on the floor is much more convenient. Tables are never big enough to place everything on it, stuff falls down anyways etc. Heck, even know i often sit on the floor now and then. Assembling stuff (furniture or such things) for example. Sometimes you also do not want to damage the desk. In this case, it might also be that the desk in the left is the only sort of table in the room, and there is also quite some stuff on it, and it's pretty cramped anyways, so using chairs would not be practical. Also, they don't sit on the floor. They sit on a carpet. Some cultures like the Japanese use super low desks, so you sit on the floor anyways, or almost floor level.
Finally, given the UFOs outside the window, maybe it's simply a universe where chairs are frowned upon for private use, so he (i assume it's his room given he appears to be the alien fan judging by his shirt) uses it only for homework - so basically official business.

Why are there so many pics with kids sitting on the floor? I had chairs to sit in when I was a little girl. My parents were poor, but even kids got to sit on chairs, unless we were watching the family tv set together. Often I'd sit on my bed to do stuff like reading or playing quietly with toys. Floors? Nope. Plastic chairs, rickety wooden rockers, small upholstered armchairs--kid sized furniture. Kids had it. They still have it. Really. I promise.

When me and my sister are playing with Legos, we nearly always sit on the floor. It's the only place where we have enough room for all the lego stuff we use.
