Description
When: July 5, 2020
Where: Zoo Veldhoven, The Netherlands
This was actually the first time we've seen the African Fish Eagles in their full, adult plumage. They were moulting during our previous visits, and they are even more impressive with their full colors and feathers on show as they're meant to be
Species: African Fish Eagle (Afrikaanse zeearend)
Latin name: Haliaeetus Vocifer
Originates from sub-saharan Africa wherever large bodies of open water with an abundant food supply occur.
Current status: Least Concern
Did you know:
…Because of it’s coloring – the white head and darker body – it may resemble the Bald Eagle and though they are related, each species occurs on different continents.
…As with many birds of prey, the African Fish Eagle shows sexual dimorphism in the already large size of the bird, where the female is larger than the male.
