How does someone get that much milkshake on their face while drinking it through a straw?

Maybe it was still too thick to drink through the straw, so she popped the lid, licked the solid ice cream off the bottom of the straw, put the lid back on, the went for the handkerchief.
Or I was just doing the cartoon shorthand for messy eating regardless of the huge gap in logic.

Aw, don't be so hard on yourself, I thought the writing of that epilogue was nice, you articulated a nice magic WG sequence well in a brief piece of text and it was sweet seeing the girls' corpulent comradery.
