Description â€ĶI really need to come up with a creative name for these photos.

I've become very good friends with a family that live near my school, and I've gotten to spend some really nice time with them since they invited me over for Thanksgiving. The matriarch of the family is this wonderful old lady who lives in a beautiful farmhouse not too far away, and when I visited them I got to explore the old barn on the property. It's a fantastic building, old and strongly built, with probably a hundred years of history packed into it (it's been used for storage for decades), and all very new and interesting to someone who has grown up in a California suburb, where everything is neat and tidy and not more than a couple decades old. These dark, narrow, cobweb-covered stairs lead up to a sort of loft where all kinds of tools, farm equipment, and children's toys have been gathering dust for I don't know how long.

I don't usually go for non-natural subjects in my photos, but I was struck by the sense of history and connection I felt in this barn. I wondered who used to go up and down these steps, play with the wagon and tricycle upstairs, use the ingenious storage system for nails and screws that was lying around in pieces; and how long they'd lived there and what stories they could tell.

I did quite a bit of Photoshop processing on these photos--no change to the composition itself, but I did enhance the contrast and push the shadows darker. (That's the price I pay for not learning how to manage the various settings on my camera; fortunately it can be relied upon to take a pretty decent photo when I point and shoot.)

A creative name? How about: Malign Cover, Ominous Shelter or, Dire Umbrage.

Thanks! Took a lot of Photoshop work to get it like this, though. I don't know as much as I'd like to about lighting or the settings on my camera.
