Description This spring I was able to take a class online at the SmArt school( smarterartschool.com ) with the amazing Todd Lockwood!
From the beginning to the end I worked hard to make this an amazing piece for my portfolio.

There's so much I could say about this, and my experience learning from Todd, but for now I'll leave it at that.

I'm so thankful
Thanks be to God for answered prayers and dreams. I was able to learn under my role model.
Thanks to Todd, for being very encouraging and helping me learn how to SEE the problems and learn how to answer them properly.
Thank you to my husband, through tears, laughter, ranting, and dancing encouraged me the whole way.
Thank you to all my watchers and followers who kept up with me through the years.
Thanks to those of you who gave me valuable feedback during the work in progress stages.

-Jennifer "Nakase" B.

Raaawr!
It's so cool and fierce I want to hug it! Though it probably won't let me, huh? ^.=.^
Love the intricate details you put into this thing! That must've taken a lot of work.

Exactly! Even if you just do the monitoring option, you can learn -so much-

There are other courses available through other sites as well from other artists. Chris Oatley's academy, check out muddy colors and artorder.com The community of professional artists really are trying to help us out.

I don't think I ever got to comment on this piece---it's amazing work and I'm so proud and glad of you that you were able to accomplish this---it's so much improvement and patience !
I love the techy crystals plates--they look so good! and you really nailed the form of the girl and the dragon--the colors used everywhere are also very nice and help solidify the whole thing!Β  I really want to try to improve myself, but I feel I am stuck in a rut...

Thank you so much!

It was a enormous jump in my work. Have I jumped the Dragon's Gate yet?

A lot of things happened with this piece, tears and smiles, anger, and joy. The girl's pose was difficult, and the face belongs to someone else. The hands are my own even! I was scarred to do something I wasn't familiar with( no dragons) so, I did a tech creature. I used my comfort zone to spring board forward. I think this was a very good idea to make do with where I was artistically.

There are many art courses available online (for a fee of course) outside of colleges. You can actually learn tons more by just going through those compared to an art school. Check them out ChrisOatley.com the art order, muddy colors, etc.Β

hahahah yes , you have jumped the Dragon's Gate!

I'm so glad that you've overcome this stepping stone --it's definitely
a landmark piece and your drawings can only improve afterwards
with continued practice of course!
I'll definitely check out some of the other options! Thanks!

I like the atypical fusion of genres here (SF & Fantasy). Also, I happen to know someone who resembles the human in the painting, which makes it seem all the more real to me.

Your hard work paid off, and from your description, it sounds like you learned a lot that you will carry with you from here on. Good for you!

Thank you!

I really had fun with this, and was glad to do something different then typical fantasy or cold SF stuff. You know someone who looks like this? Very cool.

It seems the story I had in mine, doesn't come across as well as I want. A few people said she was playing music for the dragon, which is very far from the story. Hopefully, my future paintings will tell the story better.

If you're interested, here's a little about what I wanted the story to be:

"The ring is a device that holds multiple crystalline databases. In this world crystals are found or made to hold this data for centuries. However, as politics and other social problems arise, they needed a way to keep the data safe. Safe from even the people guarding it. This is where Techdrake comes into the story. A biomechanical creature that can move, hide, and defend itself from everyone. It sounded like a great plan initially. The only problem, was how to locate it when you needed to retrieve data, or upload more to the database. The girl may be a hacker or an agent who's finally found it's hide out, and was able to get close or placate it enough to plug in."

CR99nut In reply to NakaseArt [2013-08-06 20:43:33 +0000 UTC]

Cool story... I WAS wondering about the (apparently broken?) ring of crystals on the Techdrake's back! As for the human, I figured she was programming the 'creature' for some sort of guard duty. I like your ideas about her possibly being a hacker; makes me wonder just what kind of quest she undertook to get this far. Thanks for the info!

I should clarify that I know someone who resembles the character, EXCEPT FOR the hair and the earrings (my friend's hair is all one length, but relatively short, if it matters). But the overall build and facial features are remarkably similar. I'll have to forward this and say "look, you're in someone's painting... no, I mean the human, not the dragon."

NakaseArt In reply to CR99nut [2013-08-06 20:58:22 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it was cropped down as the weird circle shape was causing tangents. It's broken for sure, but I don't have a reason. I'm debating on writing a little short story about it, or having my husband write it.

That's a funny idea! I hope you friend enjoys the picture too
