Fantastic work....I assume you mean asphalt and not tar?
does it play well with the oil? I've never tried mixing them and always heard advice against doing it....

nope, it is tar
I used to use roofing cement but I ran out..
I will stand by all the advice against the stuff.. but for health reasons only.. using tar for 3 years probably took 10 years off my life and in no way it is worth it.. this piece is one of the last- I got rid of everything tar related right after..
in terms of working with oils; I think it brings our the best use of the stuff when you mix it.. Tar, depending on its impurities can be matte or shiny, and ultimately never truly dries.. when miked in with our proper oil blacks, it takes the chaos factor a level above..

got verbal,
Cheers mate!!

There is a feeling of Rembrandt's style in this. Maybe it's the tones or the thick texture; either way I like it! Great work.

Greate work) Very intresting texture. Very atmospherical work, and this quality is very expensive
But I would arranged composition little differently. For my view there should be more free place aside in which he looks. It's only my mind and i can be wrong)

Your technic is excellent) Love it)))

Thank you.. I definitely see your point, something about that negative shape makes the piece stale.. my initial intention was to actually crop into the right side for a more animated comp, but I kinda pussied out trying to preserve the texture [+ my saw broke.. :\ ] hmm.. I probably should go back to it..

Thank you so much for your compliments and more importantly an honest\proper critique [DA is just..you know]..

See ya!
